Quick question for everyone out there...

What do I need to do to a VirginMobile KYOCERA Slider to use it as a "regular" SPCS phone?

*I know when it first came out (before VZW had it) we found a programming code to use it on VZW's system...

Can't be done. The phone would need to be activated in Sprint's system, and their system will only activate phones that are already in their database (because they were sold as Sprint phones originally).

In general, if doesn't have a Sprint logo, it can't be activated on their network.

Are you positive about that? I'm just asking because I know that wew were able to get a VirginMobile SLIDER to work on VZW's network by entering certain info in a programming menu in the phone - so I wondered if the same could be true for SPCS...

Thanks for the info Rich!

Yes. You can activate nearly any compatible CDMA phone on Verizon if you can get the programming right. But I believe Sprint is different.

i have to back you up on that rich...i used to sell both vzw and spcs at radioshack and they are both diff...vzw's phones are activated thru the phone's menus and spcs's are activated by calling the activations line over the phone (which usually takes you to india, but that's a comment for a diff thread...)

sprint has a very tightly closed system it will not allow any out side phones on there system. the actual esn has to be in the system if it is not there is no way to get it in. help desk can not even do it.

verizon is different, from what i have heard they will actually allow oyu to tell them the esn and they will input it onto there network.

I believe it is for that very reason that SPCS doesn't allow just any phone to be activated on their system... ie. All the MVNOs that SPCS leases to: Virgin, Liberty, ESPN, that new Spanish one, & whateverwireless etc etc. It protects Sprint and also gives the MVNO the ability to go out and sell their own phone(s)/ model(s) with branding...

Sprint PCs is given the ESN's for all thier phones from the manufacturer. They are then loaded into Sprint's database. If you call in to try to activate a phone, and the ESN does not match one in thier database, they will not activate it...

Your only hope would be is this..

1. load a Sprint PRL into the phone.
2. Somehow change the ESN in the phone to one from an old Sprint phone that you don't use.. (This is VERY difficult to do!!)
