It's not just when roaming - the Virgin Mobile network IS the Sprint network.

That's because Virgin Mobile is an MVNO - Mobile Virtual Network Operator. That means they act as an independent carrier, but use another carrier's network. So the phones, sales, marketing, customer service, and billing are all Virgin, but the network (towers and infrastructure) is Sprint.

Virgin handles some parts of the infrastructure, such as their servers to support two-way text messaging, etc. But the towers are, and will always be, 100% Sprint. That's their business model.

I can save you the call - they won't. They won't activate any non-Sprint phone. Period.

It's the same between Verizon and Sprint - the phones are technically compatible, but Sprint, at least, is pretty strict about their ESN database and subsidy locks.

Shouldn't, If you can get a phone to activate on Verizon's network without them plugging it in through there system, what would stop me from buying a phone from sprint and just activating it on different Verizon accounts and charging it to the account holder. There is stuff written in their network to ban that kind of stuff.

no, i don't think you understood, there are alot of phones that are unlocked and are activated to work on different networks right?
so same thing applies here, but no need to go through all that trouble if Verizon will probably be carrying this phone anyway.

Verizon will allow an outside CDMA Tri-mode phone in on their net. but you must verbally sign a release that states if any thing goes wrong w/ the phone it's your fault, not VZWs. A co-worker ported a A500 over to his VZW account when his t720 crapped out 😉

I know that, i'm an ex Sprint PCS employee.. But I was thinking, that if the phone use are network primarily then Sprint might have the ESN's loaded into thier database.. ya never know..
