Security Features for the Instinct

stringbean321

Jun 25, 2008, 8:32 AM
I've just purchased the Instinct and I'm shocked that the security is so lame. Please help me. Touch phones only allow you to lock the complete phone or have your information openly accessible? WTF!!!! So if my phone is lost or my girlfriend sees my phone which this phone is so attractive you are gonna want to play with it. My contacts, text messages, pics, and every personal info is exposed to the public. I would expect samsung, apple, blackberry and any other high end phone to have better security functions. This alone will make me return this phone. Am I over exaggerating? I feel its a principle. You pay for something and input all of your confidential info and either the phone is completely locked or completely open.

๐Ÿ‘€ my wallet doesnt have a padlock on it and i have confidential stuff in there, it seems to do just fine ๐Ÿ˜

stop texting naughty things and keep neeked pics out of your phone and you'll be fine. normally when ppl worry about things like this is because they usually have something to hide ๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿคจ

p.s. yes you can lock the phone, have you even looked at it? go into settings and there is a button called "lock" enter your lock code and presto! your phone is now locked until you enter the code.

I think what he was looking for was the ability to only lock certain things, not the entire phone.

From his post, it seems like he wants people to be able to play around with the phone w/o worrying about them reading/seeing private items. To my knowledge, I don't think the Instinct can do that

I don't have the phone on me, but I'm guessing there should be a security feature. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Samsung usually has the security in settings. Once security has been selected, the phone is going to ask for a user lock. The default is the last 4 of the phone number. You should now be able to custom your security settings.

I guess we'll have to see what stingbean321 is looking for. I don't know what "personal info" he or she doesn't want to reveal.

Like I said its not the issue of hiding naughty text or nude pics. I have had phones that allow you to lock individual features. So that features that cost additional money can not be accessed. In addition, information such as texts, contacts, calendars should be locked in case you lose your phone. Just because I asked about security doesnt mean that I was trying to hide something from a person. I feel that if my phone is lost or if someone is using my phone than the features that the phone has sprint tv, online, games, making a phone call is cool. Anything else shouldnt be of your concern.

If you're really concerned of you're privacy (what ever it may be), just love the phone through security settings. That will lock your phone from ANYONE trying to access ANY info, you don't want anyone to preview. It's your phone, so I know you'll do what you want. Enjoy your Instinct stringbean321.

Well first of all, since you have the instinct the only thing you need to worry about is people buying stuff on it. otherwise text, picture, video messaging is included on the plan. Now if thats what your worried about you can lock that from Sprint.com and if you do lose it, if they do charge things on your phone Sprint will credit it back to you.

Oh Lord, you have opened up a can of worms telling people how to change the security lock code on their phones! Now I'm gonna get all kinds of calls from idiots who change the code and then can't remember it, and want me to fix it for them immediately! ๐Ÿ˜ข
Thanks, Yean! ๐Ÿ™„

This is also in the manuel on changing security settings. Well, just in case you get a call, on getting their lost security code settings, and you don't know off the top of your head, have them enter ##3282# (##data#)>Advanced>View>Lock Code. The Lock Code will be displayed....You're welcome.

Sorry, but I just found out ##data#, doesn't work on all phones. Wow, I'll have to figure the programming exploit for that now.

Finally, i have a blackberry and it really doesn't offer the security your looking for besides locking the phone completely just like the instinct. The good thing about a blackberry is that if your on a BES Server you can have your IT department Wipe your handheld if someone gets a hold of it.

What.. exactly are you trying to do.
You can lock the phone, so that no one can unlock ti and use it.

To my knowledge, Ive never EVER seen a phone where you can "hide" text messages or call logs.

PS. you can lock the picture wallet as well, through the security menu.

Please tell us what exactly youre wanting to do, cause I dont think it can be done on ANY phone Ive ever seen

Didnt mean to cause a ruckus. The instinct is a very attractive phone and when my friends and coworkers asked to see my phone, it would be nice to have my contacts, recent calls and text messages locked so that people can view the features and not my personal info.

Motorola razrs krzr allow you to lock individual applications. I just think that the instincts security feature should have extended to locking personal info without locking the complete phone.

I still like the phone though

Most phones will lock data, pictures or calls.. but Ive never heard of a phone you can lock call logs, contacts, or messages from view.

Im not sure that phone exists.

I had a Samsung phone that could lock features such as messaging and call logs before. What he is looking for exists, just not on many phones.

The phone exists. The treo does this. I can lock out individual phone book entries and they only show up as incoming calls when that aperson calls me, but if there is no call made, that number cannot be found in my phone unless i unlock the hidden numbers. Pretty cool for players and pimps, not so much for loyal husbands and/or wives.

getjar also has killer security apps for many OS's (except iPhone and BREW). wap.getjar.com or www.getjar.com.

I think stringbean321 still has the Samsung Instinct.
