rumor....
anyone else notice that this phone has over the air programing? i found this out while doing an upgrade and while i was transferring the phonebook from one to the other her voicemail went off on the old and new phone and when she checked it, it told her congratulations and that her new phone was programmed and ready to use.
this is a cool feature, what do you think are the possibilities with this? think it has something to do with maybe reprogramming the phone over the air if it was brought from another carrier? if not what else is this good for?

well from what i have seen, do everything b4 you power the phone on. when you first power it up it actually says something about connecting to an over the air provisioning server, or something like that.

well there is the problem I always power on before I get to the programming. Thanks for the tip.

no problem, i believe it tries to connect to it when its first powered up so if there is no info for it, it will not try back again until god knows when and you probably will not want to let the customer leave the store without you programming it so its prolly done b4 its set to recheck it again.

Yeah definitly not letting them walk with an nonprogrammed phone.

Actually, if you call in on the new phone (that you want to activate) and you have the IP Basic on the line, when we swap the ESN's, the phone may be able to do OTA programming without any manual programming required. It will only work if you call in on the new unactivated phone though. If you call on a different phone, you have to do manual programming.

This actually will work for most phones, if you call on the new phone. Not just the Rumor. 😁

Isn't that programming feature for updating the Roaming Access List? Is it called a PEBL update, or something like that?
I know that with Verizon you could do it on any phone by dialing *228 and selecting option "2".
I just got the Rumor myself.
