Is insurance/ total equipment protection generally worth it?

I got talked into buying the insurance ($7.50 a month, I believe) when I bought my LG LX350 and renewed my contract last year. The literature on the plan wasn't very user friendly. It looked like Sprint had nothing to do with it -- I had to send the phone away indefinitely AND pay a $50 deductible if anything ever went wront with it. (I've actually tried to cancel the plan a couple of times, both online and by calling CS, but it never seens to "take," lol.) Anyway, a few months ago the phone broke clean in two. After reading the insurance plan, I was ready to just go in and buy a new phone rather than spend $50 AND be without my phone for a couple of weeks waiting for a repair or (possibly inferior) replacement; but when I went in to my...

insurance is always a good thing to have. honestly, I have seen customers claim the lx350 and get a fusic. as for the m1, i am sure it will be an inferior replacement because there is nothing else as high end currently.

Yes I would strongly endorse insurance because in the long run it pays for itself. Many consumers fail to grasp the concept of the pricing of cellular devices, and feel that insurance is a "rip off", most see a $29.99 on the price tag and think thats how much it costs to manufacture so in their mind they are already thinking phones are fickle and disposable, which they are not. Phones are tools not toys.

The insurance is provided by a third party company so in the even you snap your phone in half or drop it in the toilet you will have to send it back to them but only after receiving the replacement unit first. I am curious as to what literature you were reading that said you had to send the phone out first. Only warranty exc...

No they were not just being nice. Insurance covers damage repair at no cost to you. What the free repair does not cover is loss theft water damage or damage beyond repair. In one of those situations you place a claim with a third party company and pay the fifty dollar deductible. The insurance company sends you a phone of equal or GREATER value (however it may be a refurb) and when you recieve the replacement you send back the old phone in the included pre paid packaging. And yes I do recommend the TEP plan and I have it on both my and my wifes phones.
