Thinking About Switching from Cingular

Hi, I'm thinking about making a change. I've been with Cingular for many years and was very pleased with them before, but have had not good experience with their service of late (that's another story, no disrespect to individual Cingular CSRs who are on this board).

Anyhow, my concern is having decent nationwide coverage. Cingular is tops in that in my area. I saw Sprint's coverage map on their website, and it appears that if you go off the beaten path, it's a lot of analog. I realize I can get a nationwide plan to avoid roaming charges, but how is the call quality? I do occasionally travel outside my urban residence area and go out of state.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I tried Sprint and unfortunately for me it didn't work out due to the lack of their service...and was roaming on analog most of the time. Customer service and phone selection was one of the best i've seen.

The once thing that I suggest is that you check out Sprint coverage where you will be spending most of your time, and most of that good "100% solid network" say in a 50 mile radius, is very tough to find with them.

Thanks for the info, that's what I was afraid of. I do spend most of my time in an urban area, but also do find occasional reasons to wander off the beaten path (job esp.). Cingular's customer care seems to have take a nose dive, but unfortunately in my area, there's no competition with them as far as coverage (both nationwide and local). Thanks.

it really depends on what aria of the country you are in. sprint does have one of the largest actual networks. what sprint shows as it's actual network is the markets where sprint owns and operates licenses. that is the dark green. companies out there like altel cingular and verizon just to name a few when you look at there map they will include there network as well as there roaming partners network. that means when you look at there map all your features do not work on all arias of there claimed coverage maps.

the actual sprint network is the dark green that means on that dark green all of your sprint features are going to work. when it comes to the light gree...

Thanks for the info. Those maps can be confusing as far as trying to figure out what will work where. I'm mainly interested in voice coverage. I like text messages too, and you're right, coverage is spotty in rural areas, whichever carrier you're with. I don't do a lot of data transfer. I do travel to rural areas occasionally, and I do travel out of state sometimes. So the America option will cover me for nationwide use. Thanks.
