GSM CDMA and Nokia

Well I think Nokia has got it right jumping the CDMA ship. Check the article out:

This will allow Nokia to concentrate on HSDPA and other new phones. CDMA will not win out throughout the world, although they have gained a lot of market share over the last few years but Qualcomm is going to end up screwing it up for everyone. You have to continue to innovate or die. They don't seem to want to change. What will Verizon and Sprint do? This will be good for everyone because Europe has much better phones because all development is for GSM.

I beleive the article states that nokia will continue making cdma phones for the US market (which are now sold under the pantech name).

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good move and will allow them to focus on the GSM arena (which is of course dominate).

Considering their recent offering of phones to VZ and Sprint, they should have pulled out long time ago. I don't think other companies will follow suit though. There is a growing market for CDMA devices. Maybe not in Europe but their are a couple of CDMA carriers in Asia and North America (look at how Verizon has been growing lately). I think the problem is that Qualcomm is giving a few manufacturers a hard time. They are acting very anti-competitive and thats why GSM is better b/c it is open.

What would really be news is if Motorola pulled out of CDMA. 😲
