5 REASONS TO AVOID CINGULAR

blueboy

Jan 26, 2006, 5:37 AM
1) Poorly tested phones (Nokia 6682 etc.)
2) Extremely poor customer service involving under-trained reps who know little about your plan, your phone, or your history, and don't much care.
3) Poor network quality -dropped calls, "network busy" and "message failed" will quickly become part of your life if you make the mistake of choosing Cingular as your wireless carrier. You may, as have I, miss a few days worth of voicemail, not be able to send or receive text messages, not be able to send mmms, or be locked out of your account completely despite being paid in full.
4) Costly and woefully inaccurate information (411) service. Do you know that every time you call 411 and receive the wrong number, you must call 611 and wait on hold until ...

6) Outdated technology. UMTS up in several cities, but no 3G handsets anytime soon! Sprint and Verizon seem way ahead on 3G.

Perhaps UMTS is outdated but HSDPA isn’t. not sure if you noticed the different regarding data speeds but the HSDPA upgrade destroys UMTS out of the water.

Cingular has always been late when it comes to these types of things while Sprint and Verizon are the leaders in doing new technologies, such as 3g launching.

Cingular is late to UMTS but it is the first in the world with HSDPA. HSDPA should allow Cingular to leapfrog Verizon and Sprint. Even EV-DO rev.a is no answer to HSDPA's full capabilities.

Well yes, that is true that Cingular will be the first ones, however, I think it is just best to add HSDPA all together instead of just waiting till UMTS gets deployed, because Cingular doesn’t really have a good reputation right now. so I think it is best to fix their reputation first before they roll out any new services. (just my opinion based on subscriber quarterly numbers)

Well no one knows how HSDPA will truly act when actually on networks but everyone knows how REV A will act and because of that, I am not quite sure that I agree with your premise because it is too early to tell at this stage. based on tests/trials in labs I would say you are 100 percent correct, but out in the real world we have to see first then make our opin...

There is an entire other hemisphere of the world for you, please feel free to leave ours - we kind of like it. It has its issues, however it doesn't suck in the same manner most of the rest of the world does...

I understand that you're not happy with Cingular. You would not be happy with any carrier, as none are perfect. Perhaps you should try China, where you like the carrier whether you like it or not!!! 🙂

Most of complaints may be valid to you, but they don't unilaterally apply to everyone except for a certain person who I am sure will chime in with support to you.
The Nokia 6682 situation was a joint problem between Nokia and Cingular.
Screaming at Customer Service reps at 3:00 am will not get your problem solved.
You don't own a landline phone? then use your friend's phone or your work phone or have them call you at a landline location.
Trying calling during the day, it might mean that you have to be awake, but if you need a problem fixed, then sometimes it is a price to pay. Try waiting around for the cable repair people to show up sometime between 8 am and 12 noon, then they show up at 12:30 right after you leave to go to work.

1)The nokia 6682 had some problems but that happens with every carrier. If you understood anything about the current state of the cell phone industry u would blame the business as a whole not just Cingular.
2) I am not saying there are not customer service reps that suck. BUT YOU CAN'T SPELL
3)Every Carrier has those issues in certain areas.
4) Wait time 6 minutes oh please. Inaccurate information on 411 happens on every carrier. And the price is the same on almost every carrier.
5)Just cancel please just port your number

I'm not a flamer, and I can't see the egregious spelling errors SimpleMarcus (not a spelling error) holds me accountable for.

Rather, I posted because I believe Cingular does a poor job of providing quality phones and service to its customers. I have been with Verizon and the old ATT and found network reliability and customer service to be superior at those companies. In my year or so with Cingular, I have been frozen out of my voicemail twice, each time for two or more days and I have experienced call drops, error messages, and poor connection quality with increasing frequency. I have also experienced incompetent and inflexible customer service from the majority of reps. I have dealt with at Cingular.

I'm glad Cingular is rolli...

I apologize for saying your brain does not work right. The three basic elements of Cingular phone service is the billing system the HLR and the switch. And u troubleshoot in that order the billing system make sure the feature is in the billing system and then make sure it is provisioned in then the HLR. The HLR tells the switch what to process. If you ahve checked these elements then the two non network elements is the sim card and the phone. When dealing with MMS u must be able to access the Internet to send or receive and mms. That is the reason we need you to be on a different phone. This is a process and we need your line to be free.

1. it isn’t really their fault that the phones made by nokia are poorly made or what not, perhaps pursuing a different brand would be better suited?
2. well yea that is true with many companies out there
3. this is also the same with many companies out there in some markets
4. well 411 is horrible for the other companies as well
5. sales personnel don’t really care about the people in general but they care more about the commission.

It's mentioned in this thread somewhere about "having to be off the cell phone to troubleshoot." I have done tech support for 2 wireless carriers & now do it for the wireless insurance company. All technical support for all wireless companies need the user off the cell in order to troubleshoot.

u see. how ignorant is that comment? Blueboy has done nothing wrong. In fact he is helping cingular as a company by giving feedback of current services. U see, we live in a world of customer service, and you sir have just shown why 75% of other countries hate america. I personaly hate lots of things about america, but that doesnt change the things I love about it. Why do you care if someone insults america? its not like ur in the army or anything. I see flame after flame, yet few have sat down to think about his problem. If he has had the troubles that he has stated, he has every right to hate cingular. Shoot I would hate cingular too. We need more people to try to fix these problems instead of just saying "Peace the Fu** Out". You sir are a...
