OK guys, I've got a good one for you, I'm sure most of you tenured reps have heard it all before, but this one knocked me off my feet.
Customer calls in, requests in a very "I-know-you-can-do-this-so-just-get-it-done" kind of tone: "My son dropped his phone in the water. We were really good at drying it off right away, but now he can't text message, and sometimes he can't receive calls. I'm going to call the insurance company, cause I know that's my best option for getting him a new phone fast, and cheap, but I need you to transfer my son's number (GSM number on a Shareable account) to a Digital phone in the mean time, because 3-5 business days is way too long for him to be without service."

Ugh, I tried that once. We lost the phone and tried to put the number on an old Nokia. Rep said sure, no prob, it should be up within the hour. 2 days later, no service. I call in, and they finally figure out that it's not possible. Well, we find the phone, and the SIM's dead and they expected me to buy a new one. Even though, they did not know the SIM would be burned when they switched the number to the old Nokia and I even asked if this would cost me anything. Good thing I knew the girl at Cingular and she gave me a free one.
And by the way, why wouldn't a customer expect this to be quick? Most don't understand that it's either hard or impossible to go from GSM to a previous tech. Before, I had gotten a new phone then switche...
