This is AWESOME i did not know!

I was on my iphone 3Gs and while i was talking on the phone I got to surf the net and did my emails!!! This is new to me, sorry. But my friends who have either Verizon or Sprint. They cannot surf the web while talking on the phone... whys that?? Just curious here.

You can do that on ANY of ATTs 3G phones, not just the Iphone.

what???? No! How dare you make the iphone seem average. Now he will need all sorts of psycho therapy to feel as special as every other iphone user.

The reason for that is that ATT uses their 3G network to support voice calls and data sessions. VZW actually uses their 3G spectrum for data connections and pushes (almost) all the voice traffic to the 2G network.
There are several pros and cons to both methods. For ATT it means that users can surf web while talking on the phones, but it also means that if you get more then a few dozen iPhone users in the same area trying to browse the web the same time, you might not be able to get a call out because all the channels are plugged up. On CDMA, data traffic has no impact on voice traffic.
But- the phones can only process data from one frequency band at a time, so CDMA data is disabled while on a voice call.

What about 3G being moved to the 850 band? Have you heard anything specific about that? I live in Las Vegas if you can get some specific info to LV that would be nice. I'm really, really looking forward to that better bldg penetration.

have you noticed that when you are on a voice call you go from 3G to EDGE to edge to GPRS? I've noticed it a bit lately and the nice thing is that I've experienced very few "Call Failed".
