Getting Wrong Number Calls

Mobile Cell

Mar 27, 2005, 4:11 PM
I signed up for ATT go phone. And i have been getting alot of wrong number calls.

Anyone else have this problem?

Did ATT give me a used/old phone number because i am a post paid customer?

Also, i am thinking of signing a contract plan, does any other carriers give out old phone numbers to new customers?

They all do , silly. yo have to give out used #'s or else they'd run out of numbers. There like a billion people in the US.

The number you have now was likely used by someone else before you got it. That's normal.

Well it just a bit frustrating since i get like 3-5 calls a week. Plus it is wasting my minutes.

My friend signed up for Nextel and Verizon and has not gotten any of this.

Okay, we get it. You don't like Cingular. You don't have to say so in every post, at every single opportunity. You are free to have your opinions, but you don't have to constantly wave them around, particular in the forums frequented by Cingular's employees and customers.

No, don't stop her. The occasional "I told you cingular sucks" post is hilarious and it's all that's keeping me going in this hellhole.

Use your caller ID and answer only those that you want. If you answer the phone you're agreeing to use minutes.

Or you could always apply for a number change under harrassing calls.

WHY? You have a single problem with a company that is not their fault. You have the opportunity to get this corrected with a number change.

You port your number to another carrier, the problem is going to follow, are you going to quit with that company too?

How about letting the company help you to fix the problem. We are not here to take your money. We are like any business out there, to serve you the customer and your needs.

I hate to disagree, and this is going out on a serious tangent here, but I have to say, Cingular most certainly IS here to take customers' money. Customer service is practiced only in hopes of making sure customers continue to give Cingular more money, not because the company cares about their needs. Or maybe this place is just getting to me.

Every company is out to take the customers money. If they didn't they wouldn't have a company for long.

THANK YOU, I was going to say that, what do you people expect, every company has it's freaking way of making money.

Shut up already, CINGULAR bought out AWS, not the other way around. Cingular was ranked 2nd BEFORE the merger.

You people put down this company because the rate plans suck, get over it, it's like GAS, pricing stays the same with ALL companies in a city. The only difference is that Cingular offers Rollover, just like other companies that have their own promotions.

The rate plans will never change because Cingular has so many customer enjoying the plans the way they are, you need more minutes, throw out some more money or cancel and go elsewhere, easy concept here people.

Believe me, I'm not putting Cingular down. I didn't think I had to mention that all businesses are the same, because obviously the only mission in the life of any business is to make money. I was just very suprised to see Link say so explicitly that Cingular is not out to take the previous poster's money and is here to help. No company is here to help anyone. Wendy's would serve fingers to everyone if it was cost-effectve, legal and resulted in more profits.

Well the company may not be for helping out the customer but that is what customer care is for. We are here to help the customer as best as possible with what we have at our disposal. Doing so keeps the customer happy, with the company and in return makes the company profit.

The company needs profit to stay alive. This profit also covers costs with keeping 3 billing systems going and 2 technologies working as best as possible. Expanding coverage with more towers. While still having competitive rate plans and phone pricing for customers.

I am not mad at the original poster but I am mad at everyone who would rather put everything down then work with what they have. I have turned so many customer from staying with their 1000 minute plans ...

It's luck of the draw. ALL numbers are re-assigned at one point or another, regardless of carrier. It has nothing to do with Cingular, Verizon or NexTel. It's part of how phone numbers are distributed.

Some numbers are fresher then others so if you are having a lot of trouble phone care and ask them to change it. they can get ya a number that has been out of circulation longer and it won't be an issue.

All companies recycle they have to there are not enough numbers in any given location to support everyone getting a new number everytime they sign up or change

Many years ago a medical lab messed up a flyer and we got calls for nearly FIVE years from people who wanted to drop off stool samples. So yes, I feel your pain. But this too will pass.

Didn't want this post to start a whole debate whether what service sucks or not.

I was just wanting to know whether if anyone else had this problem with other carriers because most of my friends said they never had this happen and i was the only one using ATT/Cingular.

If i change carriers, i dont plan on porting the number rather then get a new number.

Or you could spare yourself the trouble and just do a teleconversion on the grounds of harrassment. New number, problem solved. No charge, and it takes about 5 minutes.
