My GSM phone now reads Cingular Wireless, where it has always read AT&T Wireless.

Very possible, but very doubtful in this case. I've been in the same location all day and this morning it read AT&T Wireless. This afternoon it reads Cingular Wireless.
I had heard that the alpha tag switch over would take effect soon after the deal closed, but not this soon!

i'm at work in an at&t wireless owned call center, and my phone still says AT&T Wireless

ok, so just got notification that our Nokia phones are now displaying the Cingular Alpha Tag and REQUIRING 10 digit dialing

It's 445 this afternoon, i'm in the northern panhandle of West Virginia (Pittsburgh area) and my phone still says AT&T Wireless.

Here in Oklahoma City, our phones are switching. My wife had to power cycle her phone to get it to switch. Mine happened w/o a power cycle.

8pm in NYC and a few say Cingular. I am guessing this is not a new alpha-tag, but rather a Cingular site being reached. One of the articles made reference to acess to alternate networks being one of the 1st steps in merger/transition. Best wishes to all involved!

Both mine and my wife's phone now read AT&T. I was out today, but talked to someone at our call center and lots of people there were having the same thing happen....switch back and forth.

in mich my tag sez CingulATT and when i dial it says welcome to the verizon wireless.
