Sprint Treo 650: Another disposable phone?

PGR

I just discovered that Sprint considers my $450+ Sprint Treo 600 to be a disposable phone. It's 3-months out of warranty and is in perfect shape save for the fact that it stopped working as a cell phone. Sprint not only won't fix it, but they won't even look at it and PalmOne says they -can't- work on it because it's a Sprint Treo 600.

Apparently my only option is to replace it with a new one and I probably will because I have at least another $600 wrapped up in accessories, peripherals, and software. In fact, I'll probably replace it with a Treo 650 but I can promise you one thing for sure:

It won't be a Sprint Treo 650. I have no interest in dealing with a company that thinks a 15-month old, $450+, current-model ...

sprint dopes sell an equipment replacement program. you pay 5$ a month anmd if the phone dies of normal wear and tear it is only 10$ to replace it. if the phone is lost damaged or stolen you pay $50 to replace it. also in 3 months you might be eligable for rebates again

now about the rpair issue. sprint does not even work on the treo 600, some sprint stores are outfited for repairs but those are level 2 repairs. that is every thing but sodering.

your phone does every thing but works as a phone? tha tmeans your actual harware compnet has gone bad. it litterally is non repairable. is it possable to be repaired? yes is it economic to be repaired? no. hear is the thing. machines bult your phone. machines work for free. how ever when it b...

Nonsense! If my Treo was (for instance) a Cingular device, then I could send it to PalmOne and they would perform out-of-warranty repairs on it for a fee. The highest fee I've heard of was just shy of $200 which may sound expensive, but it's cheap when compared to the price of a new Treo 600. But PalmOne (due to Sprint's arrangement with them) won't work on Sprint Treo 600s. It has nothing to do with whether they are capable or not.

Why is the wireless carrier responsible for a phone that is out of warranty? If you had the equipment replacement plan then you would not be having the issue. No other wireless carrier will replace a phone that is out of warranty nor will they repair it for free.
You had the option of the Equipment replacement, but you declined it meaning that you were willing to take the financial burden of replacing or repairing a broken phone on yourself. Yes the Treo 600 is an expensive piece of equipment which is all the more reason for getting the equipment replacement plan. You can go to any other wireless carrier and they will say the same under the circumstances as Sprint, no matter how long you have been a customer or what plan you are on. Wirele...

I can't think of any carrier that would repair such a phone, look at stevelvl's reply, that information is correct as far as I know, and I manage a retail store. Phones are a disposable commodity for exactly the reason steve stated, consumers want all the features for the cheapest price and they want it to last forever. Cheap and durable are almost mutually exclusive.
Now to fixing the problem; are you eligible for the upgrade? Have you checked on e-bay? Have you discussed repairing the phone with local electronic shops or national repair shops that you can locate on the Internet? I don’t know what they will charge, but I’m sure you will find that it is not economically viable.
In the future I would recommend the total equipment protectio...
