KDDI is a CDMA carrier
True, but I don't think this phone would be compatible with any US CDMA network. At the very least maybe the voice would function, but I don't think data would work.
au (KDDI) does offer a growing number of dual-band phones in their "Global Passport" series, which are designed to roam here. In fact, they recently signed up Sprint and Alltel as roaming partners. But it is a voice-only service, and I'm not aware of any way to actually activate such a phone on a US network - it's designed strictly for Japanese users roaming here.
Anyway, this Casio 3MP phone is not a "Global Passport" phone, so it's irrelevant - it can never work anywhere outside of Japan due to frequency band differences.
