No but here's some advice, switch to Sprint. Sounds like you have the perfect mindset for them.

while it may not be the case for this instance, it's been well documented that when two corporations of this magnitude buddy up together, layoffs closely follow.

mathematically [re: not morally], it makes sense. it pretty much gives the both companies the potential to cut down it's entire labor outfit in half [a service rep from either company can do the job of the other].

if each rep gets paid on the average of $20000/yr., and the resulting multinational lays off 100 workers, that's another $2000000 that would eventually be put into other avenues of the business, i.e. marketing, ceo salaries, etc.

it doesn't do much for the economy, but that's never been a huge concern for shareholders anyways.

as a 3rd party vendor employee, we do still have a contract that cingular now instead of at&t wireless would have to uphold. so I do have job security, but I do feel for any employees that would get laid off due to this. not only would that put a greater work load on the rest of us, but of course they would be unemployeed.

I know that AT&T wireless right now has about 2 million customers per AT&T wireless customer care rep. and thats only for TDMA.
if half of the employees do get laid off... except very very high hold times for care!

I hate to challenge your math, but if AWS had only 1 Care rep per 2 million customers, there would only be 11 reps in the entire company. There are probably more like 10,000 in the Care call centers....

Somewhere, a Cingular exec is reading this post going "Holy crap that makes sense". I always hated mathematics.

Actually, I read in the business section of the Herald (Miami) that Cingular intends to lay off a "considerable" number of AT&T employees. AT&T, it seems, was just about to lay off a "considerable" number anyways...which sucks of course. I don't know about anyone else, but I think ONE person getting laid off is "considerable". Where do they come up with these monkey-ass terms?

I have to agree, layoffs suck, but with any big merger it's inevitable. There's a lot of overlap between the two companies, and if they plan to be saving a billion dollars a year by the end of 06 in operating costs, cuts are going to have to come from somewhere. ATT was going to have to lay a majority of these people off anyways. They're numbers are slipping and technical glitches are creating a higher rate of CHURN in conjunction with number portability. I live in an area where ATT just started opening stores in October and they haven't done well at all. For the remaining ATT customers and most Cingular customers, this is just good news all around.
