Horray for AT&T (and Cingular) customers 😁 ! FINALLY we're going to see better coverage, and a better selection of phones (I'm only assuming since they both have good phones as is). My only question, whats the new name going to be? Well, I'm curious as to some other details, but all in all this should be good for the customers 🙂.

Hmmmmm, new name.........how bout "cinguatt wireless". So what does this all mean? Higher Rates? Lower Rates? What does it mean for the equipment providers fro both Cingular and ATT. I know Nortel has a foot print in about 5 Cingular markets and 15 to 20 ATT markets are Nortel.

As an employee of AT&T, it would be better brand marketing to keep AT&T as the name since the AT&T logo is behind only Disney and Coke for world recognition. BUT...since Cingular is owned by two Ma Bells that compete with AT&T landline service, look for the purseholders to have the name be Cingular.

I agree that it will probably be Cingular still. Although, names have changed frequently....As an AT&T AND Cingular authorized dealer, this is a huge event, because we will, in essence, drop a carrier. And, I hope that this merger will eliminate all the problems we are STILL having with AT&T's GSM system being upgraded (another word for "crashed," as one of the reps put it so honestly to me). It would be nice to not have to worry about that anymore. Plus, I have to say, Cingular's GSM coverage far surpasses that of AT&T, so putting the two together will make for a super coverage area.

Actually, Cingular can not use the AT&T logo or name - they are owned by AT&T. Cingular is not purchasing all of AT&T, merely the wireless division of that company. All trademarks, service marks, etc. stay with AT&T.

AT&T Wireless is not owned by AT&T, and not even a division of it. When they split, they simply kept the name. One of the reasons this bid took so long is because AT&T wireless wanted to keep their name, so it would be possible that they would... although unlikely.

The company will be using Cingular Wireless as the name. Once the transition period is over At&t will have no more say in what is going on with the company. The company will be in the hands of Cingular from then on out. 😕

CingulAriTy? Crap. I forgot the other T. What are YOU looking at? At least I tried...lamely. Pfft. ANYway...I'm just glad to seem another US company snapping up AT&T...I didn't particularly want to see this great company in the hands of the British (Vodaphone is the British, right?).

This news is clearly the biggest so far (today), as its got top honnors at CNN (main article on front page, http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/17/technology/ci ngular_att/index.htm?cnn=yes), who is reporting
The name of the company shall stay as it is now, CINGULAR

As an AT&T customer, I am disappointed. AT&T's logo is a big part of the company, and as one user pointed out, VERY recognized. I think they should (in some way) acknowledge that this was and is partly AT&T wireless....Thats just me. Maybe they could take on the new logo or combine them? Either way, the mergers not to be fully completed until Q4 of this year.
We shall see how this goes.

Just be happy AT&T was bought by two companies (SBC and BellSouth) that were once part of Ma Bell. That comforts me. Huzzah!

Well, the name will stay Cingular. It is a good thing, except for the fact that it is 40.7 billion and 6 billion in debt for AT&T. It really won't matter though. Cingular will have no problem with that. As to the whole coverage issue, yes the coverage for Cingular is much better than AT&T, but it is also much better than T-Mobile. I can just see the plans getting better because of the customer base that Cingular will have. 46 million customers compared to Verizon's 37.5 million customers. If Verizon wanted to become number 1 again, they would have to go for Sprint, but with how far in debt they are in that would be the stupidest merger in history. As to the logo issue, they will not keep anything that says AT&T probably because it isn't a me...

also it was part of the agreement when attws split from at&t that if they were sold or merged they would lose the at&t name.

this sux!

cing's plans suck gawdawful.
i already get to roam on cing & tmo for free in my state so it wasn't like i would have gained anything from them. maybe/hopefully cing will adapt attws's plans instead of what looks like attws already degrading their plans down to equal cing.

damn you zeglis & co.!!!!!

accaully at&ts plans have been getting a bit better. well if you are on the 39.99 or up plans. the lower ones blow.
but right now you can get unlimited MTM minutes.
and since cingulars network is going to combine with at&t's.... thats 46 million customers and a pretty huge network to use those unlimited MTM minutes.
plus you can get a bit more minutes then you used to a few months ago with at&t.
so i would suggest any at&t customer who reads this to jump on the banwagon before it chances or goes away.
like I suggest everyone to jump on the unlimited minutes plan for 99.99 that was around for 2 weeks a year or so ago.

i've got the unlim m2m which looks to be the only plus in the plan changes. but the droping the $9.99 for the $39 & $49 family plan puts it right inline with cing's crap family plan (what's next completely charging for m2m to "compete" with cing???) & killing the n&w on the $29 (which i know was to try to get cust's to go with the $39 so they can raise their arpu).

unless things start to change for the better (& i'm not counting the 7pm starting next month either), i can only see plans getting worse to match cing's crap plans.

the 9.99 discount on family plans is still available on the GSM plans.
and yes you are right about the N&W minutes on the 29.99, it took me by surprise to hear about that one accually.
but at least at&t has a customer first program which gives you a free phone every 12 months.
well or matches the web offers.
which a lot of customer complain about.

I'm just wondering if the roll over minutes will stay or be combine with the unlimited MTM.

yeah overall there should be more coverage. though there will have to be some towers sold (expect the gov't to be more harsh then normal to allow the merger since this is an election year and the dems are gonna try to @$$rape cing & attws to make themselves look good for the elections).
