Not to mention the fact that being in a moving vehicle does not mean you're driving it.

Seriously its stupid ideas like this that make people so anti government. Next thing you know everyone is so pissed off its impossible to pass a net nuetrality act.

yup the only way it could possibly work is if it was forced to be installed in every vehicle an I dont see that happening and putting devices on the highway will make it impossible for anyone sitting on the side of the road ether. more stupid ideas from our stupid government

I agree with your angle On the topic.... but we don't want a net neutrality act either.... Companies should not be told how to run their networks.

Not having net nuetrality allows service providers who also want to provide content to offer an inferior product my hamstringing the competition who has no choice but to use their pipes. The fact that most large service providers have a monopoly in their area further stifles market forces and the prohibitive cost of building a network means that this is unlikely to change.

It is exactly the job of society to tell the business within that society the the things they can and cannot do to compete.

Agree here with everyone - public transportation (buses, trains) are all motor vehicles under the code. What if you're a passenger? Now you can't use the phone? Ridiculous approach here. Great point here about emergency calls too, both the 911 and calls to daycare.

Distracted driving can occur from drinking the morning coffee, singing (or yelling) at the radio for songs playing or dropping something on the floor of the car. While yes it's sad that incident rates have increased due to cell phone usage, it's not the cell phone that's causing the accident - it's the folks not responsible to use voice dialing and a bluetooth headset. Here's a novel idea - put the bluetooth headset with the cell phone in one package.

Sorry for the soa...

You are right on scubadvr1!

Our government is out of control!
i am pretty sure our government was supposed to be "by the people, for the people". This crap is all about control!
NO ONE WANTS THIS CRAP!

Like you said, its sad when people get in accidents, but that doesnt mean we should make all these laws to prevent it.
Next thing you know, they will install cameras in all of our cars and ever time we take our eyes off the road, we will get a ticket.

Government needs to stop telling us how to live our lives! I mean, we seiously pay these politicians to come up with this crap!!! It makes me furious!

You really think they can do this lol.. What are they going to build radio jammers in everyone of our cars? ha funny. Stop bitch and just drive. If its not uber important dont take the call. It's your life in your hands.

Did you read the thing? It specifically states they're not talking about jammers. They're talking about a software that can detect how fast you're moving, probably by how quickly you change towers.

The real problem is that it probably wouldn't work in the stop and go traffic where most accidents happen.

While I don't agree with the ban of phones in cars, I will point out that it's not just the person using the phone while driving at risk, it's all the other people on the road around them.

Studies have shown that cell phone talking is on par with driving while intoxicated. Handsfree doesn't really matter because your concentration is split for an extended period of time.

Eating and drinking are largely automatic functions that don't require nearly as much attention, especially in a car you're familiar with. Passengers can be a distraction, but they can also act as a second set of eyes.
