Seriously. I was thinking the same thing. Not about Verizon solely but all the big carriers (including Sprint). If I can get a 5GB pre-paid monthly plan for 60GB...why sign a 2 year contract?

Right now I pay Verizon $45 a month (with taxes) for 450 minutes a month and 250 texts.

With Virgin I'd get 1200 minutes a month + unlimited text/IM/email/web...for $48 (with taxes).

I think anyone can do that math.

I see. Well...I wasn't thinking of voice plans. I can go with Page Plus and use my same Verizon phone and their network for $45 though that only gets me Unlimited Talk and Text...not data. I cannot deal with Virgin's coverage map.

It's sparse looking compared to Verizon's, but I used Sprint in South Florida for 2 years. Never had a problem with it. I don't care about the coverage map as long as the network covers me where I frequent.

Of course. That is the main objective. With my job I need the lower forty-eight. So Verizon or AT&T. AT&T is suspect out west though... Good thing they are getting those Alltel assets.

Whoa. You're all over the place. Yeah, Verizon or AT&T for you.

My experience with Verizon is that they are overpriced & have restrictive contracts, but the phone selection & coverage is awesome. However, after a few years of that, I couldn't wait to get rid of my $200/month Blackberry and switch to Virgin for $50/month unlimited "service". My (3-month) experience with Virgin is that since there is no contract, they randomly switched me from $50/month unlimited calling into a 20c/minute plan without asking or telling me first, then disconnected my phone 3 days after I prepaid $60 for a month's service because they said I used up $60 worth of minutes at 20c/minute and 15c per text message, in 3 days. A week later, they sent me an Email congratulating me for "starting out" on their 20c/minute plan. The...

Yes, I'm aware Virgin has a $70 per month unlimited Blackberry plan to go with their $50 per month unlimited "regular phone" plan. I'm sure if you sign up for their $70 prepaid plan, at some point they will switch you to 20c/minute & 15c per text (or whatever else they feel like doing), without asking you first. That way you will use up the prepaid $70 in a few days and then they can hit you up for more money and/or just shut off your phone. Similarly, Virgin has just introduced a $25 monthly "unlimited" prepaid plan -- so long as you define "unlimited" as using less than 300 minutes per month, before 7PM. Either way, I don't have time for their dodgy little baby games. Verizon is overpriced for what it is, but at least they don't shut ...
