Nokia Ditching Symbian for N Series Phones, Using Meego Instead
Bury Meego with it

Just because both Meego and Symbian don't have the huge footholds in the US like Android, RIM, and Apple doesn't mean they are out. The rest of the world still matters very much, and is right where Nokia is in first place.
My $0.02(or should it be ┚¬0.02?) if anyone really cares.
If you read carefully on the article, it says for N series devices. That is for their cost is no object handsets which will only represent a very small fraction of handset sales.
To say there's no developers is not the whole story. Apple supposedly has a "huge" developer community, but I would like to challenge those who have RELIABLY made any significant profits off of the iPhone.
Tech heads might love 100K+ apps(or whatever the number AAPL brags about), but if you've ever gone to your local supermarket not knowing what you wanted to buy, that can be pretty much a turn off. I've heard in terms of App Stores, if you ...

Meego is another OS that is completely dead end. The problem is that Nokia has decided to bet the family farm on. This move will likely break their bank very soon. Its not that Meego may be a bad OS, its just that there is no developer interest. Doesn't matter how great the OS is, no developers === failure.
'Break the bank.' lol--I love ignorant assumptions.
You are aware Nokia sells more phones worldwide than anyone else, right?
Of course, but their net sales have been going down [ 20% less in 2009 than 2008].

Do you have a source that confirms the 20% figure? The entire industry suffered tremendously in 2009, with forecasters anticipating a 10% decline in global handset sales across the entire market, so I find Nokia to be no exception to the rule, but I simply find that the 20% figure you quoted is exaggerated.
Overall, I think Nokia fared about average compared to the other handset makers, with Motorola and Sony Ericsson taking the biggest plunges. The big winner was actually Samsung, believe it or not... I am not a fan of Samsung ...

My choice of words is harsh on Nokia because they used to own the smartphone market and gave it up over a 2 year period. And they will continue to leak their smartphone users if they continue on their 'reinventing the wheel ' strategy. Heck, by ignoring android, they have given life to a dying Motorola and almost dead Sony Ericsson. I'm not saying that android is better or worse than symbian, meego, etc, I'm just saying from a sales perspective, you need to make models that people want to buy.
Together, these two populations are roughly about one third of the global population. (Meeting math...I'm not doing equations on the exact populations.) With the market more mature in places like the United States and Europe, a lot of the growth in the industry is fueled by developing and upcoming nations. Just because a particular item is not successful in the United States, that does not mean it was a failure that is going to bankrupt the company.
I bet you'd also be amazed to know that many of the developing nations actually have better mobile phone networks than those of the United States. Most of the grid of cells in the United States has evolved from t...

Pardon me for the previous crack, but Nokia IS the # 1 manufacturer of cell phones on the planet. Until the day they're not. Which isn't now.

Nokia is the leader in cellphone manufacturing -- no doubt there. But they have lost their smartphone dominance. That's why i think they need to release what people want "android" vs what they think the users need "meego". Symbian is great for normal phones with buttons. But for touchscreen units, its a disaster. BTW , I have owned the both 5800/ n900 . Hardware wise they are great, but software is what their missing. BTW, my experience with symbian is long, nokia 6600, then 6630, n73,n80,n95 8gb, n82, n85, n86.
They've lost their smartphone dominance HERE. If they had any at all. Overseas, it's another planet.

Unfortunatley, they have lost their smartphone dominance WORLDWIDE !!
44% of the worldwide smartphone market. You see, facts are GOOD.

Don't bother replying. I've unchecked the 'Notify on new replies' feature. I don't deal with the ignorant too well. Next time pick a fight with, oh, I dunno, maybe a preschooler. Yeah. That might work. Ciao.
