My dreams of a touchpro 2 running WebOS software are dashed. HTC's hardware coupled with Palm's software would be incredible...well, i guess that word is already taken.

I don't know, I think they would have done a damn good job with Palm. Also, they have been rumored to have been wanting their own OS...

I was hoping they would buy Palm.

Oh well.

The quality would probably be excellent but I don't think it would sell. I would hate to see HTC invest into something and not get the proper payout.

HTC sells because it has a pretty damn good business strategy and it's marketing is top-notch IMO. I've actually been pretty dissapointed in the quality of their devices.

If they picked up Palm I think it'd make a big splash and give them some pretty hardcore free publicity for a while and allow them a decent amount of time to come up with a product/pitch for the public.

I couldn't agree more. I was sure that they were going to pull the trigger on this move. All WebOS is missing is good hardware and proper marketing. I think it could easily compete with Android and Apple. It might never be #1, but I bet it would be profitable.

I'm not buying it. My guess is HTC doesn't want to pay the price Palm is asking- and this is a tactic to try to get them down. It just makes too much sense for HTC- I don't know how they could let it pass.

and they still didn't jump the gun.. which means either palm was asking way too much, or their financials are worse than we thought.

I agree with that, my original post wasn't saying Palm sucked. It was saying that it wouldn't be a good move for HTC because the asking price had to be way too high

Agreed. webOS is dead. It was a noble effort by Palm but it just never caught on. If only they had released the Pre before the G1. It's all about Android now and HTC knows that. Time to move on.

Someone at HTC doesn't agree or they wouldn't be working on their own OS. They may think WebOS isn't the answer but they aren't thinking Android is the end of the line.

Right. I had forgotten about HTC's internal development.
