Some unheard of company with patents wanting to cancel the shipment of several billion dollars worth of product, yet has 0 products available here in the US
vs.
A US based company that gives tons of money to nonprofit organizations, government officials and schools. Is one of the few growing companies during a recession. Created thousands of jobs here in the US by opening new stores. Created a whole new market for App developers and has lead the way for a new market in general.
The verdict...
The ITC will stop all iPhones from coming to the US because it is the exact opposite of a good decision.

Well then patent law is meaningless, isn't it? all that matters is who has the best public perception.
So let me get this straight:
Apple sues someone else: it is them defending their intellectual property.
Some other company sues apple: They don't matter and they're just doing it to make money
Sounds totally balanced out.
So I can become a drug/piracy kingpin as long as I'm a member of the rotary club and I call it an "american based organization." got it
...
All I am saying is a United States Government should support a United States based Company... If it were up to me we would have China's view on Patents...
China says that if you are not a Chinese based company you do not qualify for Chinese patents.
Its the governments job to defend its citizens, if the government thinks closing down one of the countries most successful companies, then I will be there to say "wow, that was stupid!"
...

no they shouldn't support a company just because it's based in the US. they should either 1) uphold patent law for EVERYONE or for no one and 2) if they do support US companies, then that entire company has to be in the US, not just the headquarters.
China is also a government controlled economy, aka communist. Companies like apple WOULD NOT EXIST if they tried starting in china.
...
In all fairness, there is very little that seperates the US from Communist. Our rules are a little less strict, but our government still has its hands in every aspect of the economy.

they actually didn't (when it comes to tech) until very recently. this is one of the reasons most the really big tech firms of today started in the US and not europe.

Can someone tell me where Apple products are made? With that said then there should be some rules on patents. If apple was built in the USA then it wouldnt be such a big deal.
Anyway the big picture is that Apple can sue others but others can not sue Apple. I bet if this actualy goes thru apple wont sue HTC.
...
Because Apple (and every other company) can not build NEW factories in the US due to Carbon emissions, pollution and very expensive licensing of land/resources. Apple chooses to out-source all of its manufacturing to Hon Hai Precision Industries in Taiwan.
Ironically, Hon Hai Precision Industry also assembles both the PS3 and Xbox360.

Even the hells angels do good for the community on paper, organizing food/toy drives and other things of the sort. Some people just need to realize that Apple isn't that great of a company, yeah they have some pretty "innovative" products in the minds of many consumers but theyre still in many obvious aspects attempting to form a monopoly at the cost of many other companies who they steal intellectual property from royalty free. Its not far fetched to think that Apple would copy ideas sourced from Asia, and yeah to many of us "Elan Electronics" is a fairly unknown brand, but I bet you that theyre pretty damn big in Taiwan.

When Apple does it it is making love
When anyone else does it it's rape
The result is the same

apple has the highest profit margin of any handset or computer manufacturer.. this means they don't give a damn about the consumer more than the next company, most likely they give less.
...
So Apple offers a $99 phone that I cheaper to make and runs better than any other device in it's pricing class and they don't give a damn about the customer?
Hmm...
...
MennoMar 30, 2010, 11:42 PM
you can't compare subsidized pricing because APPLE doesn't sell the phone for that amount. I am talking about Unsubsidized pricing (and how much att pays apple per activation).
you should know better than to use subsidized pricing. it is meaningless when you're talking about a business.
...
Apple couldn't build manufacturing facilities here even if it wanted to.
...
MennoMar 30, 2010, 6:35 PM
right, because regulations would not allow them to.
so while their headquarters is here, their plans (a good chunk of their investment) is in china, not the US
...
Although I am right, your entire argument is arbitrary. Apple has over $40 billion in the bank and could easily afford to pay off whoever gets in their way. Frank Herbert said it best... "The Spice must flow!!" and the iPhone is the Spice.

no you're not right. Protectionism is always wrong

Really all I have to say is that all this suing Apple stuff makes me laugh.
But I do wonder why these companies wait 3 yrs to sue???
...
Research in building a case. It takes time to investigate whether you have a valid case. If these companies didn't think they could win they would not sue. It is just too expensive to do without a potential payoff.
...
I get that. 3yrs is a long time though.

I'll let you guys finish but let me just say one thing.... Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time

they could also be waiting for the patent to clear.
Remember, the HTC touch came out years ago and apple is just suing about it now
...
Hmm, well didn't the HTC Touch come out quite a bit before the Iphone?

The beautiful thing about aptents is that they are farely retroactive. If you were awarded a patent tomorrow for merging a calculator and a cellphone you can sue Nokia for making money for years with your idea. It is up to the judge to award you royalties for every device sold with that feature, to throw it out saying that suit is frivolous and throw it out or tell Nokia to stop selling that feature until Nokia and you work out a deal to license your technology.
Apple may have actually infringed on this companies patents. If that is the case then it is up to Apple to prove that the patent was issued incorrectly and that the technology is common sense, that anyone investigating touch screens HAS to use it in order for the tech to work. Th...

That is a maybe, there is a thing called "Prior Art" that falls into play.

Yeah but three years is a bit much, more like lets see what we can strong arm apple out of.
And I do agree Apple is as bad. Their headgames with HTC is proof.
