Quite the opposite actually. Everything I'm seeing says that calls will actually still be switched on the VZW circuit network, meaning skype-to-skype and skype to international calls will still be handled the same way on the VZW network as any other call. Just instead of switching off the network at the call terminating carrier, it'll switch off the network at a Skype VoIP gateway of some sort. Calls through that gateway will be billed and rated by Skype, and will be a free call to VZW users, not even using their plan minutes.

so how is the call transmission the opposite of being free? I remember when this was first announced, a lot of big red haters said verizon would charge for this app, but they confirmed today that the app will be free and using the app is not going to use your plan's minutes. so does it really matter how the call is transmitted? i'm just curious.

I guess it's not "free" because you need the data package on your smartphone (which you have anyway)...but that's to be expected and anyone expecting different would be an idiot 😛
