Google's Nexus One Also Heading Sprint's Way
Hmmm...I wonder...
So far, Google has offered a price for the phone with no contract. In my previous working for Sprint up until the summer of last year, you couldn't even bring in your own phone without signing a 2-year contract. Is that still true? If so, I wonder how Google will deal with that.

Yah Sprint is weird like that. If you have an existing phone Sprint likes to tie you to a contract, except one Basic Plan for $39.99 a month for 200 minutes, Unlimited Night and Weekend, add roaming $5.00, add M2M another $5.00 add Text and Data for $30.00 by the time you get done with it, the price comes out to an Everything Data plan...
I hope Sprint changes their tune and offers this phone on 3 levels.
1. Full Subsidy $149-$179 for NEW 2 YEAR CONTRACTS
2. Half Subsidy $200-$300 for EXISTING CONTRACTS or 1 YEAR RENEWALS
3. NO CONTRACT PRICE $450-$550 for ANY PLAN, NO CONTRACT.

That plan he quoted doesnt exist. The Sprint basic 200 plan is $29.99. For $39.99 you get 450 minutes, nights at 7pm, unlimited weekends, no roaming charges, mobile to mobile included. It sucks when people give misinformation.

The plan is in the system. It is called a month to month calling plan. It must be left over from the old Fair and Flexible days or something. With that plan, or any other, Sprint does require a two year agreement with any new line of service. (If you have an existing phone you still have the two year agreement though you are eligible to upgrade at any point you decide to do so.)
It would be nice if Google forced them to stop the contract for a non-subsidized phone, but I don't see it happening.

Yeah I definitely remember the month to month plan and the poster said it correctly. Everything else puts you into a contract

Most of the carriers require a data plan with the smart phones, and my bet is that Sprint will probably require that for the Nexus One as well. But I understood this announcement to say that Sprint expected to offer a better plan for this phone than the other carriers do.
