Because
the reason it is not available with a subsidized contract price is that in my opinion, AT&T would not allow Google to have the ability to do the contracts if they could not control it and fill it with their unnecessary apps.

You got that right, atleast for now. Besides AT&T will be getting the Desire, which is real nice, but lets see the bloat, lock down, yahooazation and other stuff.

I bought the Backflip when it came out just to get a hands-on idea of Android and to get something new. I know I have 30 days to return it and most likely will. I like the Backflip more than I thought I would. Motoblur is OK, I am not into Facebook and Myspace, but, I really do like the news widgets the most. What I don't like most about it is the somewhat slow processor, oh, and the AT&T bloated software that I cannot delete. But if I kept it I would be happy, just want something a bit more. Let's see if the prices change if they offer it with a contract and what other Android is coming out.

If I pay for something with my own money, I want it to be mine, and I don't want ATTs or amy carriers prints on on my property!

Also, if you get into a contact situation, the customer feels AT&T would have some responsibility if something went wrong. Similar to what happened when there was some question about the 3G performance on the TMobile version. Without the contract, AT&T has no obligation to provide any support past making sure the number is active and can make calls and that data is accessible.
