Verizon Wireless: Unlimited Data Not 'Sustainable'

Now with this potential news I will probably think very very hard. I have ATT but would prefer better service but not looking for a unnecessarily high bill.

Couldn't you just avoid using the internet on your phone by blocking the web and avoiding metered charges? Also, doesn't this break the existing contract that people currently have with Verizon allowing them to leave without a penalty?
