Sprint Says No Change In Its ETF Policy

I think Verizon made the move to try and keep people from porting out to get a better deal and used the whole "people canceling and selling phones for profit" excuse so it wouldn't sound bad.
I saw a chart from an att rep that showed port ins from other carriers and the number of people porting from verizon was through the roof, topped all other carriers by a landslide.
Why would they have to do this to keep people from ripping them off for phones, their earnings show that its obviously not an issue, and chances are the few that are doing that simply wont pay the ETF anyways.
