If Palm doesn't get it's own synchronization software, it's going to be forced into a cat-and-mouse game with Apple.
Each update Apple pushes of iTunes is going to send Palm stock further down the toilet while they scramble to patch it. Eventually, Apple is going to maneuver it so they have a basis for a lawsuit (likely regarding knowledge former employees have) , and Palm will be toast.
On top of that, it's hard for Palm to pitch this as a "professional device" when they're doing this.
Palm- Hire some programmers and develop a legit means of media synchronization. I like the Pre, but want to see version 2 (where I am hoping you fix the crummy hardware) . Staying alive is crucial.
...
palm also has amazon, and sprint music... itunes isnt the only thing available for music.
...
Those aren't synchronization services.
...
A lot of people seem to THINK itunes is the only place to get music.
AmazonMP3 actually lets people CHOOSE between WMA and itunes.
...
Actually, iTunes purchases are just in AAC format, which is supported by most media players.
...
For some reason I thought itunes was mp4 format, I don't know why I thought that.
...
It's m4a, which is the AAC audio format.

Despite ACC being supported in most media files, you and I both know music purchased from iTunes is not able to be syncronized with any other media player due to the DRM software encoded in it.
Furthermore, while I do agree some syncronizing software would be nice, with the drag and drop option in USB mode, and syncing capabilities with not only iTunes but other media players like winamp, it is hardly nessicary.
...
iTunes purchases are DRM free and have been since earlier this year. iTunes has offered DRM-free music from a few labels who approved for much longer.
...
furthermore... the palm pre cant play DRM music even if they sync through iTunes...
...
It can also sync with windows media player
...
palm pre does not have sprint music player stop saying stuff that isn't true.

I'm not positive but I believe I read that one of the employees who helped develope the WebOS is a former member of the team that helped develope the Iphone.
...
That's likely the case- their CEO did a lot for the iPod development, so he knows the ins-and-outs of the program.
The problem is that Apple can (and likely will) sue the pants off of Palm for trade secrets if this keeps up. The likelihood of Palm surviving would be effectively zip in that case.
...
im thinking maybe thats why apple is still not suing because they cant...mr.rubenstein is to much essential in the development of the ipod that instead of him owing something to apple..its the other way around.... im just guessing....

Granted I am a Sprint employee, but I don't even know why ppl care about this. I've used itunes...there are better options. And with my Pre i've found it easier to sync via USB mode anyway and just drag and drop what I wanted on my phone. More options are always better so if it can sync with itunes, great, if not who cares.

iTunes is a pretty good music management program- worlds better than Media Center and WinAmp, even though I never liked it as much as Audion. It's a major asset to the iPhone/iPod ownership experience, as it's able to handle large libraries quickly and efficiently, where drag-n-drop can lead to issues sometimes and is a bit cumbersome.
If Palm was smart, they'd simply get software that reads the XML file on iTunes and call it a day. Instead, they're forging their vendor ID to mimic iPod functionality.
