If more than 1 major carrier in the US supported it. What you wont see is a mass migration of customers to Sprint just for WiMax for a short period of time.

By the time Sprint gets a good full coverage network going, LTE may be well on it's way anyway

lol true but lte will be just rolling out by the time wimax(clearwire) gets good full coverage. wimax is scheduled for a couple more markets like dallas by the end of this year. So even when lte finally rolls out wimax will have good coverage. Its a technology that already exists not only in america but other countries are already using it now as we speak. So customers will either have to wait for lte to reach their city or go ahead with wimax thats already there. we will just have to see how this thing rolls out between the two.

Sprints biggest challenge in the end (being the only WiMax major US carrier) will probably be phone selection. Phone manufacturers aren't going to be fal...

thats true, wimax will have to really prove its self to get some support from major phone manufactors. But there are big companies behind wimax who also have shares like google and ibm just to name a couple. Did somebody say wimax android? hey, its possible.

dan hesse also said that wimax isnt the only solution he said that hes open to lte as well in the future. so sprint could have both which could be very beneficial as wimax can be used for other things such as your lcd or plasma tv being wirelessly web enabled, which would be very cool. theres alot of possibilities other than the cell phone with wimax. im not saying that its going to dominate or lte will be the winner all im saying is that its going to be kinda cool to see the outcome of what is to come with these two technologies.

Wimax is a wireless data technology. Voice is a secondary feature. You are making the false assumption that wimax is meant to compete with Verizon and att for cell phone market. The truth is wimax is meant to compete with att and Verizon isp. This is the biggest difference between wimax and lte. Lte is meant to be used for wireless phones where as wimax is a true wireless isp. That is the reason google and the cable companies have sunk so much $$$ into the venture.
