and the other crappy part is they dont even make commission, what a waste.

behold the future: walmart and best buy sell things they don't understand and get paid nothing to do it.
radio shack is on the fence, ppl that work there tend to be techies.
small shop retailers will go out of business. They are already losing tons of business to the iphone.
At&t corporate stores will get **** on (after they run out of insane exclusive phones, which I hope for their sake never happens) and have to clean up walmart and bestbuys' mistakes.
good luck consumers

The Radio Shack's at least still pay commission and they have 17.000 kiosks nationwide along with their 7000 stores. The kiosks are in Sam's Clubs under the name SC Kiosk and in the malls under KOI, soon in Kmart and Target, all paying good commission. Good luck Best Buy getting your people to wait on customers for low pay.
...
yeah you gotta feel for the non-commission reps. activate 100 lines and bust your a$$ congratulations you made nothing. But best buy employees may not know any better. ignorance is bliss

If I have my choice, I will only deal with Wal-Mart or Best Buy to upgrade my phone in the future. If I buy a phone and don't like it, I can just take it back to them and I can exchange it without them charging me a stupid restocking fee (which is $20 for AT&T or 10% for the iPhone, and $35 for Verizon). With information from this site and cnet.com, I don't need some "knowledgeable" rep from AT&T to pick a phone; I know more about the phones than they do. If I have a problem with a plan, I've always been able to call AT&T on the phone and they've fixed my problem every time.
And Wal-Mart's and Best Buy's prices are a lot cheaper. I have a Nokia E71x. The phone at an AT&T store was $199.99 - $50 mail-in rebate which requires a data ...

🙄 then you are in the minority. You also come across as a jerk.
...
Why would you call me a jerk? I do research before I go shopping. I know the features I require; I use this site and others to find the phones that have those features and I read reviews of those phones from people who write them. Then I go to stores that charge 1/3 or 1/4 of what AT&T charges to buy those phones. And if I don't like the phone I purchased, those same stores that charge a lot less initially don't charge me a restocking fee if I want to return it. Why does that make me a jerk or in the minority?
If you want to disagree, that's fine. I don't know why you feel the need to resort to name calling.

Read again and you may notice I did not call you a jerk. You are in the minority for being such a saavy shopper, and "coming across" like a jerk for playing the system and telling the reps on here how much you hate seeing us get paid. Sorry for taking out aggression on you, you annonymous internet person. 🤣 God I need a new job.... One that isn't stressful.
...
dude...this is the easiest job on earth we talk to people all day and get paid insane amounts for doing so...stress hahaha there are others who have to really work for their pay and sry to say WE are not in that group....

I work at Best Buy Mobile, and really, I'm not sad that I don't get commission. As long as we're selling a good amount of phones we receive a generous bonus-- we have no incentive to sell a customer one phone over another and that keeps us impartial. Plus, we can recommend one service over another, thereby tailoring the customer experience.
Really, we're providing excellent service for our customers. And while there might be a few employees that don't live up to our standards, they are soon weeded out.
We're going to revolutionize the industry.
...
You are one of few who might actually be ok, but when i go into a best buy to buy anything i automatically say no thank you when they offer help due to past exipirence of misinformation....

It doesn't matter what phone/provider, my comission is based on the plan. I'm not partial to one provider over the other one either. Difference between me and you is that my employees are motivated to learn.

I've been to the local BestBuy Store with BB Mobile area, sales force seemed to me to be very helpful and knowledgeable as well as friendly. I used some BB money (or whatever they call it) and a gift certificate to get an e71 which was on sale. Everything seemed fine as a consumer. I just don't understand the hate? I guess the kiosk dudes seem to be getting jealous or resentful. Frankly not being on commission for the most part is beneficial for the consumer.
...
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the big box stores and their quest to turn my job into a clerking position. 🙄 I'm glad you had a good experience picking out an e71x, it's a sick phone. The BB in my area have complete idiots working there that couldn't explain the difference between the iPhone 3g and the Storm other than carrier. I for one won't buy into this whole "Best Buy is impartial" crap until they are selling ALL carriers available in a given area. I doubt they tell people to go across the street to a USCC or T-Mob store, they tty to sell what they have.
...
The phone is currently 49.99 instantly at RadioShack . . . cheaper than all of the above.
...
But you have to pay for the data plan to get that price (at least at the Radio Shacks in my area) and you have to keep the data plan for something like 6 months. If you're going to get the data plan anyway, that's fine. But since I don't want the data plan, Wal-Mart or Best Buy work better for me as they don't require you purchasing a data plan to buy the phone at their price.
...
Personally, I'd rather not make commission and take care of my customers. It's not like we're working for minimum wage here.
...
i make LESS than minimum wage at a retailer, commission still isnt good as COR either lol...
...
RadioShack does treat their employees well. I work in one of the Sam's Club kiosks you mentioned, and while my pay rate isn't as high as corporate stores, I can easily double my hourly rate on a good week in commission, which really gives me a reason to know the products I'm selling. I've heard time and time again from my customers that we're much more knowledgable and helpful than the corp locations in the area.
...
😢 SCK won't be around for too much longer. Every time they renegotiate contracts w/sams, more kiosks get converted to being sams owned.
...
I used to work for SCK, and it was good pay. In the end, however, Best Buy's discount is to die for. Seriously, it'd make you sick if you knew. It's 5% above cost storewide. Yes, it's beautiful.
...
Actually, Best Buy Mobile employee's earn a monthly bonus based on notional margin sold during the month, and usually are paid higher than the rest of the store employees.
To give them credit, they do send their Mobil employee's to a week long training. I never got official training at the SCK Radioshack owned kiosk. I had to read phonescoop everyday to train myself.
...
In addition to that, Best Buy has training's throughout the year to keep information fresh.
...
pretty hard when you have to call customer service 3-5 times to get an ACTUAL CORRECT ANSWER. I work at Best Buy [we don't have AT&T in our area], but I have this issue every time I call international customer service. What a pain.
...
u probly call our El Paso call center. they dont have any idea of what plans do what.
...
It's a wonder You dress yourself in the morning. 🙄

I would rather spend a more money at RadioShack than go and buy a phone at Best Buy or Wal-Mart. For one I don't want to go to a store were I can buy a TV, a Cell phone, a gallon of Milk, Interior Paint, a bicycle, rifle, and blue jeans; Jack of all trades, master of none. The Best Buys in my area just suck. I have seen staff at the Best Buy telling customers wrong information. One customer corrected one employee and then she argued with the customer that the customer was wrong. I have been in RadioShack stores when customers come in with problems from Wal-mart and Best Buy and the RadioShack employee helps then fix the issue. I have never be left hanging in RadioShack and that means a lot to me.
...
Your comparing a store that gets very little traffic compared to huge retailers like Walmart and Best Buy. You will always have 1 bad experience vs 100 good experiences at these retailers.
