Good but how soon?

This is good for those who travel a lot which I'm glad this is taking place. The only question is how long before those towers will be set up to AT&T's network? It's already taking them a long time to roll out 3g coverage.

From AT&T: Consumers in those areas now have access to the wireless network with the best global coverage and to the nation's premier lineup of innovative wireless and wireline products and services

By the sound of it, it is already up and working. Probably best to call to be sure those areas are lit up, though.

This has nothing to do with changing the towers, the users will be FORCED to get new handsets and then have pineapples shoved up their balatoes.

Or, the alternative is to let Verizon keep Verizon Wireless, RCC/Unicel, Cellular One, Midwest Wireless, and Alltel. Considerding that for some consumers, especially in areas of rural minnesota, that would leave only T-Mobile (which isn't a coverage leader in rural areas) or Sprint, which also isn't the coverage leader in those rural areas. At least they would have Qwest for a landline alternative.

Any area that is switching from CDMA to GSM or vice versa will need new/changed towers for that spectrum to serve the new owner's network in that area.
