WOW... What a Stupid Phone

xzavier2008

Why is it all these phone manufactures are trying to compete against the iPhone. So let me ask: will it interface with a MAC? Can I down load my iTunes? Will it sync with my iCal. Will it push my MAC address book/iCal/iTunes wirelessly? I know iPhone does this on Windows XP and Vista... 😁

No, I don't think it will do those things, and I DON'T CARE! It's NOT an Apple phone. It will, however, have MORE and BETTER apps available for download than the iphone does.

Exactly
I've never used iTunes, iPod, iPhone, i... whatever.

I need something that..

Has a decent browser
Full Email client
SSH client
Remote Desktop Client
Port forwarding/tunneling over SSH
Office like apps (Open Office is Ok by me)
No 'locked down application store' like iPhone.
Able to transfer files (SSH/SCP, or other methods)
Able to run WiFi only (if I don't want to pay for monthly data services)

Monthly data service is required for the device. Either $25 (data + 400 text) or $35 (data + unlimited text).

Oh yeah...who would want a 5gb hard cap instead of a 1gb soft cap that will drop your connection speed to 50mbps...lol
T-Mo just gave me a reason to never choose then as a carrier. I would be over 1gb in a week. I'm a data hog and Sprint lets me go wild.

id rather have a 1gig cap with tmobile than have anything to do with sprint and there half rate network -1,000,000 customers in the first quarter..... wonder why? ahahahahaha

If Sprints network is half rate then what does that make T-Mo's? 1/8 rate or something? Talk to me about networks when you have 3G in all major cities and airports. How many of the mill were iDen cusotmers? iDen is horrible and they are trying to sell it off so why would a customer want to stay with them with the possiblity of the iDen network being no more? Not to metion people that are tired of the customer sevice they get from Sprint. That is not an issue with me since I have maybe called them twice in the last year but to some people CS is a big deal and if it is then go with VZW. At least you get a ton of 3g coverage and no stupid 1gb data cap. It will cost you more though.

iTunes I'm guessing will be a NO since this phone will not not include FairPlay and or QuickTime so there will be DRM problems. It will play what every other phone (not named iphone) uses which are MP3s. If you are a big itunes user than Android will not be for you. May just have to see what apps the delevlopers come up with to see if there are any MAC freindly ones.

Actually, I read over @ Engadget Mobile that the G1 will have an Amazon mp3 store app pre loaded, so that's cool, you can download tracks directly to the device!!!

Because Apple brings touchscreen to the forefront does not mean manufactures should not dare make them. Just because everybody is coming out with touchscreens doesn't make it direct competion to the iphone. Apple was not the first to have the touchscreen and Apple shouldn't be the last. I feel this is history in the making and I am very happy for TMO to be able to offer this product. I wish it was my carrier but we will have to wait.

Yeah well, guess what, I'm not under contract, and I am very, very, very curious about Android's potential, so I will be checking into T-Mobile, they're rate plans, they're policies, all sorts of thing, I live in Las Vegas, and Tmo's 3G is live here, so yippy.

I will either buy the phone outright and sell my Instinct on ebay or have one of my friends that is eligable to upgrade order it for me and switch phones with them. If I'm really lucky they will release an Instinct like phone with Android and I can just flash the new OS on my current Instinct for free!

The beauty about having an open source, Linux based operating system is that anyone, anywhere will have the capability to make those modifications to the phone if they want to. It may not have that stuff out of the box, but I fully expect it to be able to do all of that once people start making programs for it.

You know what else it does? Something so incredibly grounbreaking and mind boggling that Apple didn't think to incorporate it with the original iPhone or iPhone 3G. MMS. Amazing, isn't it?

Yep, and unlike the original iphone, the original G1 IS 3G, don't have to wait for the 2nd generation, like they did with the iphone, I still can't get over that, that in June 2007 a device such as the iphone wasn't 3G capable.

You people are pathetic... Are you that brain washed from the crappy i products? Or do you just feel like posting stupid questions. MOst pda's will sync with silly macs so im sure this will as well. Im sure if AT&T was sellin this all there would be nothing but praise.

So for the people who are not HATERS an lookin forward to the future (quite possiblity) of mobile freedom. Applications will be like ringtones, regardless ofthe questions of will it be compatible to my phone. Its a step in the right direction to see phones that people can add what ever they want to.

For all the Haters dont buy it, an enjoy you iphone. but judging from the amount of people askin for this i think it will do very well. SO hate on!

It's not an iPhone, so listing a number of iPhone exclusive (or near exclusive) features & decrying it as inferior is rather dumb.

Given Google's commitment to openness, it's a safe assumption this phone will interface with a Mac, though the degree of compatibility remains to be seen.

It's not an iPhone, nor is it trying to be, despite some clear inspiration from Apple.

You really have to see one of these things up close and personal. They look a lot better in real life than they do in the pictures. How are they competing? It's a different phone with better features. Most notable difference is the full qwerty keyboard, which is a step up, because I think pure touch devices suck to type on. Maybe if you're a girl you like it...

So let me ask: will it interface with a MAC?

Yes.

Can I down load my iTunes?

No. But what kind of n00b uses iTunes? You don't need iTunes for anything other than ipod synchronization. Learn how to get mp3s the free and easy way.

allow me to respond...no it will not interface with a MAC, iTunes keeps allot more than stupid music in one place, movies is another, and if you weren't so busy trying to blast apples wich sounds like you've had a bad experience in which case cant help your thier. If had read what i said; does it sync iCal/iTunes and mail all in one? No it doesnt, sorry if I want a user friendly and easy to use phone than I chose iPhone. Hey call me a google hater but I perfer the fact that apple is strict on who and what gets let in for applications. Give that phone 6 moonths and people will start to complain that the apps that were soooooo free and are easy to let in are now corrupting the phone because the werent screened. if this is such a superior phone...

Considering the success that Linux has had doing exactly that, I don't think the phone will have any problems. Not everything is going to be a stellar application, but users will be able to tweak parts of the program that they don't like into something that they like. This phone may not be for everyone, but Android really is. There's no limitations on it. Same goes for Linux. And in case you were wondering, Apple's operating systems are built on top of Linux these days...just like Android.

It's called a memory card or USB cable..ever heard of it? Click and drag. You're telling me click and drag is more complex than your bs apple software? You must have no comprehension of the basics of computing.

If had read what i said; does it sync iCal/iTunes and mail all in one? No it doesnt,

Uh no it doesn't. There's a hundred programs which are extremely complex to simple calenders and mp3s/media files are drag and drop. Who needs to waste time and money on iTunes? It's called *FREE* for the smart consumer.

Just Because a phone bears some similarities to the iphone doesn't mean they are outright copying them.

The Iphone changed the perceptions a lot of people had about what their phone should be able to do.

LG, Motorola, and other manufacturers released music player phones, and even phones with full browsers in the past, but apple is very good at taking those ideas and making something new out of them.

People expect media phones to be "iphone" like now. They want a full browser, they want a touch screen, they want a lot of eye candy. Yes, a company could (and most likely will) release a phone that is competently different from the Iphone, but the safe (read: popular) phones will copy the basic features of the iphone because anything...

well, first off:
As everyone has mention before, the iPhone isn't the first phone to come out with a touch screen. It just happened that thier touch screen was better than everyone else's at the time. I remember that the PPC Mogul came out the same year as the iPhone and that had a touch screen, but i never heard anyone say that Apple was copying the PCC, so you can just shut it.
Second:
The iPhone is good at what it does, and that is to be an iPod touch with the ability to make calls and play games. If Sony came out with a phone version of thier PSP, everyone would want one of those and phone companies would start marketing PSP looking devices. (anyone remember the name of that one cell phone that was built to play games on it? Ca...
