What's up with the memory support?

Why can't they all support 8GB? Some support 2GB, another 4GB, and another 8GB. Why can't they just support the same spec? I assume the hardware to support any of these specs is comparable in size and cost. The devices run the same OS. So why can't it be standardized?

Well, 4GB or above is all SDHC (SD High Capacity) and doesn't run the standard SD specs. So you would have to program the OS and the phone to run both regular SD and SDHC, thus driving up costs. As to why a 4GB phone doesn't support up to 8GB, I have no idea. Maybe it's just the OS limiting it in that regard. I personally think that any phone manuf. would be on top of this and letting people get as much memory in there as they could.
