CDMA(Red Nazi's) vs. GSM

Smart move for Big Red to buy Alltel. This phenomenally expands their coverage footprints both ways for former Alltel and Verizon customers. Now good ole Sprint needs to make up its mind where to go from here. If Verizon buys them, it will be one big fat CDMA giant monopoly. T-Mobile and AT&T need to do some serious thinking. GSM is worldwide yes, but would be an interesting merger if they decided to go that way too. Then you have the battle of CDMA Verizon vs. GSM. Ultimate sacrifice, watch your prices go through the roof. 😲

CDMA is a slowly dying protocol. In 5-10 years (by the time the Verizon-Alltel merger dust settles) LTE networks will be blanketing the country by all major providers with the exception of Sprint.

The CDMA v. GSM argument is really becoming an irrelevant novelty.

Very true. GSM and CDMA are going bye-bye, the future belongs to OFDM (LTE) and WiMax. Though I'm sure 'the dust will settle' on the VZW-Alltel merger long before 5-10 years.

I wasn't trying to insinuate it would take that long. Just saying that it would have done so by then. However, I wouldn't doubt if it did take nearly five years for the last remains of an Alltel subscriber base to fade into "what once was."

Find it hard to believe that the feds would allow VZW to buy Alltel AND Sprint. That would be a 135 million customer carrier, and would have over 50% US marketshare. Ins...

That is why I stay with T-Mobile. Deutsche Telekom won't sell. 😁

I'm more and more happy that I didn't pay the ETF and ditch T-Mobile. The money that I spend on changing equipment with Alltel will now shift to T-Mobile and AT&T.

I could have sworn you said that you were a store manager in the Alltel forum? Did they let the arrogant Thales go already??

Thales, I posted this a couple of months ago, look at your response regarding pimping over priced insurance on cheap phones and Alltel being sold.

Actually, no. My job is not in danger as I don't work at a corporate store. Seeing as the nearest Alltel Corporate Store or Verizon store is some good distance away I'd say we're not in any real danger either. I'm a bit more cautious about what I believe as far as upper management is concerned, however it is my understanding that any transition on our part will be voluntary. Given that our company just opened its 5th Alltel Store, and I've yet to miss a sales goal or metric and my return/chargeback amounts are far below average, my job is pretty secure. But hell, with a BS in Business Management and experience working for some big players I guess I would be SOOL if I was fired, right? You skulk about the forums just to be a prick.

Young Chap- You advised Alltel would not be sold, you were wrong and a look like a fool--End of story!

p.s. Insurance is a rip off, consumer reports even says so. Good day Thales and Welcome to a Verizon World!

Consumer reports is full of it. Surveys are, by nature, flawed. My PDA costs over 500 to replace w/out insurance. I think I'll keep my insurance. 🙄

as a vzw customer and worker (indirect) insurance can be good and bad. if you buy a lg 8350 which retails for about 200, pay 5plus tax for 24 months and a 50 deductible which you dont get back, is insurance worth it?

120 plus tax plus 50 deductible? thats debatable.

however, my xv6800 retails about 505, 170 is worth 505 to me. again its a matter of opinion just like everything else in the world. also, i have made 3 different asurion claims on 3 different phones. when i call i tell them my phone broke, i bought a new one and i want a new one to replace it. not i havent made a claim in 2008, but i have never recieved anything but a brand new phone in a brand new vzw box. so imo, insurance is worth it

Got to love it, Jay acts like he's mature, then as soon as he gets called a "moron" he reports it to a moderator.

You lose again Jay. Get a life though, seriously. The extent of your purpose in life is to cling to one antagonist a few posts and reference them as often as possible.

It's funny that your title got to stay, while mine got deleted. But I do agree, AT&T and T-Mobile are in danger.
