I wonder if Google or Microsoft would consider buying Motorola and/or Palm as well as Sprint and just enter the mobile business themselves.

Both Motorola and Sprint are dying companies, focusing on money more than what the consumer actually wants. Recent Moto phones have been a joke, aside from the Q, when was the last time they actually innovated beyond the RAZR? and as for Sprint, they still charge too much for their service. They have some good phones, but i'm betting they will be edged out by Altell in the next 2 years, and sprint will slowly die.

Microsoft might be a possibility for purchasing Motorola. But Google for sure wants nothing to do with being a carrier. And I doubt that they actually want to get into manufacturing handsets either.

What's in it for them? Their business model is to get as much advertising in front of people's eyes as possible. Sure, being a carrier can help them with that cause but do you really think they want to deal with the tens of thousands of customer complaints they'd be getting on a daily basis?

Because Microsoft understands the business model of selling a product, it's not out of the question that they might be interested in Motorola. However, considering that NOBODY stepped up with an offer for the Handset Division when it was b...

I don't know if the carrier model is totally a dying breed. With 60 million customers for VZW and even more with ATT, the carriers will be around for quite awhile. However, where things are really at now is data, and with data comes software. I just don't see the big carriers as being relevant software developers. Not when Google and Microsoft are in the mix too.
