QChat is right around the corner. Sprint is going to really try and leverage this product as a stop
gap for all those Nextel business customers leaving them. Should be rolling out end of this quarter.

I think they are beginning to deploy these QChat phones now because they really wanna get people off from the degrading Nextel iDEN network. I just read a news article from Cellular-News that was saying how the new leader of Sprint really wants to streamline everything into one network, so the most common sense thing to do would be to put everything onto Sprint's CDMA network, which is so much more reliable. Yeah, it stinks that Nextel customers will have to switch, but they should realize what kind of crappy network they're on. LOL.

To correct michael herc's recent post:

Nextel's network did decline significantly after Sprint took over (for whatever reasons), but it is back up to speed now. They have been ADDING towers to fill in pre-existing gaps in coverage and are even extending the iDEN network to new areas as more real estate development occurs.

Where it exists, the iDEN system is actually more reliable than other networks, certainly more reliable than the Sprint CDMA network; just ask any of the people who were using Nextel Direct Connect immediately after the 9-11 attacks, when no other carrier's cellular service worked but Nextel Direct Connect never faltered. This phone I see as being a double win for Sprint...

It gets Nextel customers off the iDen network... which has to start happening soon. It also provides something that many Sprint customers have been asking for.

This is a durable phone. It's mil spec rated. What's the attraction here? Business customers who don't necessarily want Direct Connect but do want a durable phone will get this. That was Nextel's niche, and now Sprint can offer is widespread.

The best thing about the newer Powersource and QChat phones is the ability to disable the DC feature if you don't want it, but DO want the phone. Businesses have always been able to disable the phone, but never the DC.
