WCDMA is a GSM technology, so I assume it will effect ATT and T Mobile phones that would use this technology.

This will effect AT&T's already weak 3G lineup. And every other GSM carrier who is upgrading. Most 3G vendors use Qualcomm chip sets. Only a hand few don't. So this will cause a lot of problems. Broadcom really doesn't seem to understand that this will hurt them more then Qualcomm.

It will have some effect not only on AT&T and T-Mobile, but also on the smaller carriers that use the GSM family of technologies. Nokia and Texas Instruments are major chipset manufacturers, so I would expect that some handset makers would choose Nokia or TI for new platform development in the WCDMA and other HSPA areas.

The Phones that would be affected on the AT&T Mobility side are as follows: Samsung (SGH) A707 Sync, SGH i607 Black Jack I&II Pretty much all Samsung's use Qualcomm but the majority of phone 3G enabled either use Broadcom or another vender for 3G Chipset. Some LG phones will be affected by this.

Wasn't Nokia Siemens in some legal battle with Qualcomm over WCDMA chipsets too? I think Nokia Siemens makes their own 3G chipsets but I don't know for sure. Anyone know?

I think that Nokia Siemens is the partnership that concentrates on network infrastructure, and that other areas of Nokia do chipsets, but I'm not sure on that one.
