Although, I bet these won't sell well. Considering how expensive overseas roaming is, it's always more economical to get a local prepaid phone when you're over there.

True, but once it comes out I'm sure it won't be too long before you could get the GSM side unlocked and then use a local overseas SIM card which would provide much better rates.

I was actually just thinking about that last night. I have a Samsung i730 and I was thinking if I should have gotten an i830 but then I remembered how expensive Verizon's roaming rates are, so until you can unlock it, I'll just use the local prepaid. I've actually only gone abroad 2 times in my life, and only 1 time was when I had a cell phone.

VZW's roaming rates are actually better than AT&T's and T-Mobile's.
But yes, while a local SIM would be cheaper you do not get to have the same phone number.

Sure, if you only care about outbound calls. If you need to be reachable at *your* phone number, though, that won't work.
Plenty of people travel on business and need one phone number they can be reached at wherever they are.

Well, would GrandCentral work? I have that, and I'm not sure if it only works on US numbers.

It may not sell well as far as consumers go but for our business customers thats a whole different story... 😉
