Verizon Wireless Alters Data Pricing Model
New VZW Changes
After reading a few posts, I think I need to be the voice of reason. VZW has made two SIGNIFICANT policy changes in the last month that continues to carry them ahead of the rest of the so called contenders. Let me explain...
First, considering the NEW Nationwide calling plans that just started. Because they bill in per MB usage, it is going to be a drastic improvement over past plans, and far better anything any other competitor is offering. You will no longer be billed airtime for any data sessions. From here on, ALL airtime will be available for voice usage. No more disappearing minutes. For someone like me, The new plans hurt. I am a heavy web user. I use it mostly at night. Most months I use about 700 to 800 night & weekend mins. and about 200 to 300 peak. I checked my data used the past 2 months and under the new plans I would have had to spent about $35 more a month. I don't plan on switching anytime soon. For now I will stick with $5 a month or until they get Vcast in my area. $1.99 a meg is good if you don't use it very much. It gives access to the web for people who may not normally use it. It is nice for checking the weather, movie times or sport scores. I think it stinks that they will charge you for just checking Vcast. You also get charged meg useage for downloading games and rings. But the change isn't aimed at heavy users. It's aimed at the casual web user who spent more money in minutes than they would have if they paid per MB. Heavy/heavier users are better off on the $15 unlimited plan.

How many web pages are you looking at? On mobile web with the new Nationwide plans, it takes 100 mobile web pages to equal 1 MB. That is a ton!

you're right, they don't...especially considering that you only listed the casual rates... Sprint's basic unlimited package is $15/month and has been for a long time
AT&T's and alltel's plans are as good or better than verizons already as well ... either do a little more research or include ALL the numbers when you say the numbers don't lie...

Verizon's VCast V-Pak is $15 dollars and includes unlimited data as well. He was just saying that if you don't have a data package that Verizon is cheaper pay per use.

sprint's network is not faster although it is growing much faster and will soon be faster. it is the largest though. i sell sprint and have a verizon and sprint phone. the verizon undoubtly gets the best reception but the sprint data coverage blows verizon's away!!!

While Sprint was the first to launch an advance data network, I find it hard to believe that their footprint is larger than VZW which is widely accepted as the "coverage king" and since all air cards run off cell coverage that would generally mean that vzw has the larger data coverage.
As far as speeds they should be the same, since they both use Rev A.
And with the launch of Nationwide plans VZW data network will rapidly spread, you should see large improvement through out the midwest, Kansas, Neb etc...

Not even close. Check a 3G coverage map for both carries, both cover around the same # of POPs with Rev A.

The really cool thing about this that helps me out is that i can now use picture and video messaging in extended areas(outside verizon's network). I can also use mobile web and get it now outside the network. Because now they are on a data usage system instead of a minute of use system. Good for us people on the verge or on the outside of verizon's main network.
