I wonder if the 5 megapixel will put this kind of camera phone at a high price... maybe at first.

Agreed. When are we going to get camera phones in the U.S. with 5 mega-pixel cameras? That's why I don't have a camera phone now, the picture quality of 2 mega-pixel cameras is so poor, they aren't worth having!

Ah, it's not necessarily the resolution that's so bad, it's the lack of cameraphones that have autofocus!!! It makes a big difference.

Supposedly, AT&T is getting the Sony Ericsson K850, it has a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, and records video at 30fps!!! It also has a xenon flash!!!

So, hopefully they'll launch it soon!!! I certainly intend to get it, it's just a matter of getting some overtime on my job, and getting the money together.

Auto-focus helps, but the poor quality is really due to the poor optical lenses in most cameraphones and the tiny imaging sensor. Some manufacturers are actually using nice optical lenses like Carl Zeis and Schneider-Kreuznach to address the lens quality. But all the megapixels packed into a tiny sensor just so that it can fit in a phone degrades picture quality immensely.

If you take a look at the N95 pictures, they're pretty good for a camera phone, but they won't compare to a 5MP standalone camera though.

Ah heck, I'm just happy to have such things as mp3 and quality camera all in one device.

I've heard of Carl Zies, but I never heard of the second optical lens you mentioned.

Personally, I'm really, really hoping ATT picks up the Sony Ericsson K850, like they're suppose to be, ...supposedly!!!

Either:

a) When carriers are no longer the deciding factor in what phones are released in the US;

b) When Americans are willing to pay for them;

OR

c) RIGHT NOW, since Nokia sells the N95 in the US.

The N95 is out. Just did a froogle search and found many that are US version. Just because phonescoop has it listed, does not ALWAYS mean its true. (though, they are 99.99%) 😁

A third version of the Nokia N95 multimedia computer has cleared the FCC. This newest version includes quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band WCDMA 850/1900 for use in the States. It carries over most specifications from the standard European version, including 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth, GPS and a 5 Megapixel camera. It runs the Symbian S60 platform, and has a microSD slot for media storage. None of the versions are officially offered by any U.S. carrier, but this version will work on AT&T's 3G network. There is no word on what pricing will be.

They were available at nokia.com. http://www.nokiausa.com/A4409002

Out of stock at the moment. Guess they're selling pretty well. Some Nokia stores have them as well.

I'm willing to pay! I paid $535 for my Sharp V903, which has a REAL camera on it, a 3.2mp auto focus camera. With 2x optical zoom, and yes, it worked plenty fine on Cingular's network!!!

I beg to differ. My Sanyo M1 phone takes impressive pictures for a 2mp camera phone. Autofocus is the key 😁

Well, you bunch of geniuses.

Cameraphones outsell digital cameras 4:1

The people that make these thing know this.

They are constantly packing more and more into a smaller package.

They are doing their best. They want your money.

If you think back, cameraphones were barely released on 2001. In 6 years we have gone from .05 MP to as much as 5,6,7,8 MP on a phone.

Samsung rocks
