I mentioned this in the Suncom forum so might as well put it in this one also. Just wanted to note that T-mobile USA is purchasing this company for the amount I mentioned. $1.6B for outstanding shares and $.8B of debt. To a total of $2.4B. There will be synergies of $1b so that will basically mean that the purchase was $1.4B. moreover, the purchase allows for more capacity onto its network by up to 20 million customers. makes each subscriber that Sun has, which is 1.1 million, on the $1.4B net purchase price, for $1,272 per subscriber, which is cheap. Without the synergies in place it would cost $2,181 per subscriber, which is also a pretty cheap valuation.
(I said Synergies again. 🤣 )

I actually said it in the post. “makes each subscriber that Sun has, which is 1.1 million,†t-mobile USA has currently 26.877 million customers, which would give them after the pending transaction passes the hurdles, of 27.977 million. If they report 3rd quarter and fourth quarters like they did in 06 of 802k and 900k respectively at the end of 2007 they will have 29.67 million customers. so almost there. That is of course if they get the same numbers as they did in 06 for the latter half of this year. Obviously any further increases in their reports, over the numbers in 2006, would mean that they would be more than 30 million.

I know allot of people in NC that will go with tmob. Quite a few were asking when when when its been over umm 10 years now. So they will see allot of people going with them in those two states!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how many people you know will switch to t-mobile, because they don’t look at a few people. They look at economic trends. The fact that they waited this long to buy them is beyond me. I would have purchased Suncom, a long time ago even well before the Cingular/ATT merger.
If you look at Suncom’s operations you can see that they don’t even gain many subscribers in those areas.

right there was really only 2 choices in SC and NC up until 1 year ago. Sprint and att. Suncom sucked and verizon and tmobile were not there! Now with verizon and tombile it will be interesting!

well if Sprint, AT&T and Verizon are horrible in that area, but more importantly Suncom can’t even do well in their own market, what will be a chance that T-mobile will be successful? quite slim.

I work for one of the big 4, but i am a loyal T-mo customer since 2003. Its is good to see them branching out into these states. Lord knows people down there are tired of ATT's tryanny and Sprint's attitude. Rock on

I do like the idea of expanding into newer markets but if the companies who are already there are failing them they should fail also. Suncom is a horrible company so I am not sure what they could do to improve on their operational and financial measurements. Like I told wombough T-mobile needs to do a heavy job of fixing Suncom and fixing the image in order to make it remotely successful. It’s a mixed picture to me.

How can I hate a company like T-mobile that has started to do very well given its lack of spectrum and network? I am very pleased with the company’s success so far and their purchase in the AWS spectrum. when people have shares in companies they can say whatever they want and obviously if I want to say my concerns I say it. I do it with Verizon and AT&T as well as with others.
How is it a big win? The big win was the AWS spectrum winnings. That is the problem with your statement; “Our award winning practices will follow suit with Suncom,†because Suncom can’t even perform on their own and shareholders, stakeholders, and bondholders have been urging the company to either go chapter 11 or fix it dramatically....

Well, I believe that on forums like this, there should be more facts on here. I think this forum would benefit more if that is the case instead of some members bashing others and providing false information. Rich, Eric and other moderators (if there are others, I don’t remember) work very hard at making this site, maintaining it, and keeping the TOS rules so I think they deserve that members continue to keep this forum educated, factual, and civil. If not, this forum will start to lose credibility and then no one who is informative would post anymore. I get my information from many places, but sometimes I use Google if I cannot find some of the things. Majority of my information is actually from people in the industry and other document...

In some ways HOFO is better than PS but I think in some other aspects PS is better than HOFO. Some of the members on HOFO actually do not know what they were talking about. I used to post on there and I started to on PS because I felt that PS’ members including moderators are better.

It will be interesting to see just how many people do switch and if they do, how happy they will be with the limited coverage that Suncom (now t-mob) has in the Carolinas- at&t's footprint is about twice as big.

I have ATT here becasue I came here with Cingular. But EVERYONE I know here uses Suncom.
All you can eat anytime for $59 NO junk fees. Just $59 out the door. Easy. ATT and Suncom have equal coverage here as far as I can see and those I spoke with. I think T Mobile will do well. I have already spoke to some Suncom friends on month to month who are renewing for two years before they lose that opportunity.

If you look on the suncom website under coverage and look at the regional area, what you see is Suncom's coverage in dark blue and AT&T's overlaid in light blue.
Sumcom relies heavily on AT&T for coverage outside of the cities and interstates/major highways. If the home on home roaming agreement goes away with the t-mo buy out, they will have to build a lot of towers to catch up.
T-mo seems to be a good company, but just as with suncom the potential coverage issues could be hard to get around at first.

I think many people will because T-mobile can offer those Suncom customers cheaper rate plans. Suncom customers pay higher ARPU than both T-mobile and AT&T. problem is, Suncom’s CPGA is quite high while T-mobile’s is low so it allows T-mobile to be more flexible with their offerings. In addition, t-mobile will be strong because they will combine their assets in the regions where Suncom is to Suncom’s and provide some enhancements in coverage and capacity. Only problem is, additional towers and a re-brand and re-vamp of Suncom need to happen in order for T-mobile to make them successful. Otherwise, it will continue to fail.
