Wow, this one is really designed poorly. I got to see it today and try it, it works well but the thin screen seems really easy to break, I simply ran my finger on the underside and could see all LCD going nutty. Also, the slide has a big piece for the camera, and when it's slid up, there is a big gap in the back that seems like an easy invite for dust/dirt/problems. Plus, the "full QWERTY that isn't FULL" is pretty lame, it just reduces the letters per numer from 3 to 2, and still makes it hard to letter dial (like "1800-CALLME or whatever). I guess it just seems like a cheap Chocolate knock-off to me...
...
Maybe the 3 to 2 keyboard is actually Samsung's answer to the Pearl, not the Chocolate?
...
Maybe, but the "seel point" is that it's easier to text. I just don't see it...
...
well you no longer have the annoying "on no" "Im in" and other similar annoyances with regular predictive.
...
Well, yeah, because the SureType keyboard is the same concept as the one on the Pearl....[SureType was licensed by Samsung from BlackBerry.]
...
That's funny, I didn't know that the chocolate was the first slider phone ever. Every slider phone must be a direct knock off then, hmmm... 🙄
...
because LG never had the PM-325 or samsungs E350. wait, more recently the T809. hmmm. 😛
but seriously, it's a half-data device. it allows you to check your pop3 and webmail. it's basically the common man's blackberry. it's release price is going to be 149.99 minus a $50 mail in rebate, making it 99.99 with a new activation/full upgrade pricing.

"I GUESS it just seems like a cheap Chocolate knock-off TO ME..."
last time I checked, phonescoop did allow opinions.
...
Though your opinion doesn't make much sense.
this phone is nothing like the Chocolate in any way. There are many slider phones out on the market at the present time, not just the LG chocolate (????)
...
Really? A black/red slider that features an MP3 player "is nothing like the Chocolate"? You guys can feel free to disagree and whatnot, but let's not go overboard. Keep your comments in context, let's not all exaggerate at once.
And why would a company copy "any" slider phone? Doesn't logic say that that would copy a popular model, which the Chocolate is? Of COARSE it's different in ways, do you think Samsung wants a lawsuit? And as if Samsung themselves haven't had like 20+ sliders, two of which I've owned.
I'll rephrase: The Blast seems like Samsungs closest phone to the Chocolate as far as overall appearance. Happy?
...
Yeah TradeMark, even though your argument was long, it still doesn't make much sense. Are all slider phones with mp3 players gonna be copies of the chocolate in your book? I don't think any manufacturer in their right mind would try to mimic any phone made by LG.
...
Yes, all sliders with MP3s are LG knock-offs, even the sliders made before the Chocolate. They cheated and looked through time. I really don't get what is so confusing about my flippant comment. Samsung had a great design for slides, why is this one differant? Does anyone who has held this, a t629, a t809, and a Chocolate see where I'm coming from? It seems like a lot of you just see me comparing slide phones and have no idea about the situation other then what you have read here. I know how easy it is to read a review/opinion from an "expert" and assimilate tha opinion as your own, but what's even better is trying the phones out yourself and forming your own opinions, but please try the latter before trying to debunk my opinions and theorie...

The 809 and the 629 are essentially the same exact phone as far as design and features. Would you have preferred that instead of coming out with a new design that they make another version of their design in say....blue?
Your point makes no sense, just because it's a departure from their previous sliders doesn't mean that they were trying to "copy" or that they were even heavily influenced by the chocolate. I've held one in my hand and used it -- it looks nothing like the chocolate. 🙄
...
Fine, I'm not making sense. I'm an idiot. I guess it's not at all possible companies use each other for influence. And I guess I was saying Samsung copied the Chocolate on purpose or something. And the Blade didn't knock-off the Katana who didn't knock-off the RAZR or whatever.
Stop thinking so detailed and just look at the big picture. I'm sure you'll find SOMETHING similar...
AND my main point is that it's poorly designed, I don't really feel that the Choc is.
...
Trademark, what about the Blast seems inspired by the Chocolate to you?
The Chocolate has touch controls and a scroll wheel now. The Blast has neither.
The Blast has a Blackberry SureType keypad and a dedicated email client. The Chocolate does not.
The Chocolate is designed around playing music. The Blast is designed around email.
The Blast is long and thin. The Chocolate is short and a little wide.
I've held both phones and played with both of them. I really don't understand where you're coming from.
...
haven't I already done this? When did this become about my comparing it to the Chocolate? I also could have made a list of the differances, whoop whoop. It's not the SAME, I know this, and that's NOT my point anyway.
And they are not pushing this phone for email, more for the "youth" so IM and text, they want it in kid's hands, and they are the exact ones who will break the screens.
I'll go with you guys and say the Blast is absolutly nothing like the Chocolate in any way, shape, form, or funtion. I must have been on some good LSD at the time, oh well. The Blast makes babies happy, old people dance, and cures cancer when used right, I was wrong in bad-mouthing it. If Jesus were around, he would use the Blast.
...
Yes, because disagreeing with your ridiculous assertion means that we all think the Blast is awesome.
...
the irony behind all of your arguments is that none of them are on topic, and none of your rebuttals support your former claim.
here are some inherent problems with your arguments.
"I simply ran my finger on the underside and could see all LCD going nutty." seeing as that's the case with any LCD with a thin plastic sheet (i.e. most phones) covering the actual liquid/transistor array, that's not necessarily something that would qualify it as inferior, but rather on par.
"I guess it just seems like a cheap Chocolate knock-off to me..." that in fact WOULD imply that they are one in the same.
websters dictionary defines the word "knockoff" as: "a copy that sells for less than the original" once again, implyig that they are in fact th...

the phone is nice we got demo a couple of days ago the screen is bigger than the T809.Its not as thin as it looks its a little thinner than the rizr and by looking at it it will not be cheap at all.And just remember that the chocolate was a knockoff of the T809 that took a year longer to get put out

At first glance I thought it was a big screen TI graphing calculator. Maybe not what they were aiming for.
