S21 Has No Memory Card Expansion Slot?

That is really, really dumb. They are becoming more and more like an Apple clone (non-removable battery, no memory card slot). If this is the new trend from Samsung, then I'm done with them. I know I will NOT be buying the S21 because of no memory card slot. I'll find another brand that does still offer it. We'll see if the S22 continues this stupid trend.

I agree. There should be the option for a memory card. This will influence where I spend my money. I want integration. Compatibility. High quality.

All of these things can be accomplished without copying Apple. Samsung , please go your own route instead of following Apple.

I don't disagree, but I will point out that Samsung is giving all S21 models 128 GB minimum storage (Apple still starts at 64 GB) and Samsung is only charging $50 to upgrade to 256 GB. (Apple charges $100 to go from 128 to 1256 GB.)

FWIW, Samsung's statement on this:
"Over time, SD card usage has markedly decreased on smartphones because we’ve expanded the options of storage available to consumers."

Wow, I can't believe I got a reply from the founder of this site-very cool! Samsung saying SD usage is down doesn't mean they need to get rid of it all together. What does an SD slot cost Samsung to put in the phone? $10 maybe? I like having options and when you take away an SD slot, that's diminishing my options. And when Samsung or Google someday decides to charge you for that online storage, you'll be wishing you had an SD card slot. I guess in their world "expanded options of storage" is what they call taking away options of storage in reality.

Thanks for being a loyal reader!

The issue isn't cost. It's pennies, if that. (Most of the cheapest phones have memory card slots.)

The issue is almost certainly physical space. People want large batteries, huge displays, and extra cameras, all in a small package. And new technology requires additional components, like extra antennas.

mmWave 5G antennas, in particular, take up significant extra space. So Samsung making mmWave standard is probably the main culprit. The small S20 from last year provides strong evidence of this. The AT&T/T-Mobile version (without mmWave) had a memory card slot. The Verizon version with mmWave did not.

Agreed, I will have to skip this model and see about next year.
