I can picture it now. A bunch of business men sitting in a board room deciding the best way to get the TDMA customers to switch.

Lets see folks. How about we offer them new phones for free and not make them extend their contract?

CEO: Ummmmm I dont think so.

Lets see folks. How about we give them a discounted new phone and a discount on their first monthly Bill. Also they won't have to extend their contract.

CEO: Ummm I dont think so.

Lets see folks. How about we sucker them into paying 5 bucks more a month to upset them. This will create 4.7 million irate customers. We also will not give them a phone discount or a discount on their first monthly bill and we'll make them sign a 2 year contract. If they don't like this new pla...

Team: Sorry sir, we tried that and these people apparently weren't interested.

CEO: Lets see folks. How about we give them a discounted new phone and a discount on their first monthly Bill. Also they won't have to extend their contract.

Team: Sorry sir, we tried that also and again these people apparently weren't interested.

CEO: Well then I guess we're going to have to charge them their fair share. We're maintaining an antiquated system just to support them, so I guess they're going to have to pay for it. It's not fair to our other 50 million subscribers to have them footing the bill for a TDMA system that gets older and ...

Ahhhh very funny, Were you one of the idiots in the board room with them? Come on buddy. Stop defending a company that wants nothing but your money. Dont be on a companies side that wants to charge people more money. You have no idea why those people did not switch. Has it ever crossed your mind that GSM service isnt available in their area as well as TDMA service is?

Be realistic here and wake up. Cingular is shutting this network off in 2 years anyhow. Why would they be SO STUPID!! to risk loosing all these customers now to make a few extra bucks.

So think about your foolish response and only post another response when you smarten up.

well speaking from a client point no it is not smart to charge 4.99 but how would you like to own something and give away the service for free to 4.7 million people these customers most of them are on plans that don't cost anything but 15 plus tax a month because AT&T gave it all away which is why they are no longer around so maybe you should look at it from other points before you speak next time and do some research

Why dont I do some research? Explain to me what you know sir? Are you a cell phone expert? Have you sat down with all 4.7 million people and had coffee with them and got to understand their situation?

You people are unreal and need to get real. You would be pissed if your cell phone company charged you an extra 5 bucks with nothing in return.

So let me tell you something. Don't bother doing your research cause it won't matter to me.

Cingular made a stupid decision. Understand that? A Stupid decision indeed. Thanks

Damn straight. I'd imagine 4.7 million people are scratching their heads wondering how Cingular can just pull a charge out of thin air and apply it.

im not certain but im pretty sure since cingy is charging 4.99 to each tdma line that their probably not making a profit on these customers, their keeping the TDMA network up NATIONWIDE for 4.7 million people, while the other 52+ million people are on GSM. TDMA costs more to run thus the reason for the 4.99 'unjustifiable' charge

Yeah, it's cheap. Go to Canada. Go to Europe. They'd love to have $3 gas.

You're the biggest drama queen and troll I've ever seen on a forum. You have no point and every post you make is antagonistic.

Still resorting to non-sequiturs, straw men, and ad hominem attacks?

You've yet to make an actual point.

Got a dictionary in front of you, do you? You know what my point is and always has been: Stop charging these poor folks arbitrarily. Now go drink your corporate Kool-Aid.

It's not that we disagree with you entirely, but at least we're refering to the article which is what this discussion is supposed to be about.

All you can say is cingular is charging these customers arbitrarily but you have no proof. We have the article as proof of what we say, because that's what the discussion is supposed to be about. We make our own statments pertaining to the article, and you simply don't have proof that cingular is charging these customers arbitrarily.

Show us some article, or facts or something that says this, and maybe we might take you more seriously. You've yet to make a valid argument here. You're just stating YOUR OPINION. Not facts!

Dicussion should include facts & opinions. Like for example.

"I don't...

Suncom is cutting off their TDMA customers by Sept 30. I've already seen some heading toward the RadioShack/Sprint kiosk getting a crappy phone. At least Cingy is trying to hang on to their older customers but going about it the wrong way

why do customers complain so much. if you are so upset, why not switch to another company, which is gonna offer you about the same deals (1 or 2 year contract required). people just like to bitch about anything, especially low revenue cust who thinks that companies only like to make money. It seems that ridavid must have the 19.99 plan att used to offer. just switch company, quite sure u don't have a contract by now if u still have tdma att
