It sucks how badly radioshack is doing. When I worked at the shack, the only other competing store in town was walmart. Radioshack prices are not overpriced. Radioshack brand is more expensive than walmarts brand, but you are getting a much higher quality item. We often had better prices on name brand things. What also kills the store are the people who come in and ask questions about things and then go buy them at walmart.... I think people will miss the stores once they are gone.

Long time coming. Continuous degradation of parts/accessories availability, loosening training requirements (in the old days, you actually had to learn stuff to work there), dumbing-down of the target market (used to appeal to moderate tinkerers, but they never sold unlocked phones).

They tried dumping low-profit services and items, but the problem is that leaves people with no reason to enter your store. Upper management had a fantasy of everyone in the world coming in for high-profit phone activations without any particular reason not to order phones online or buy them from a million other stores.

2nd that: long time coming.

I swore them off years ago due to terrible customer service. An employee once got into an argument with me for wanting to return a phone (unopened box, a Christmas gift for my mom) and cancel the associated associated contract within the grace period (we decided to put her on prepaid instead). That plus another experience making a return with receipt and only being given store credit, which I didn't want given that everything they sell is overpriced. Maybe the customer service problems were unique to this particular store, but being overpriced was universal to them all.

Frankly, I'm surprised they've lasted this long.

I love Radioshack for the random cables that I need at times. Haven't personally shopped there for something in a while though. Surprised the one by me has stayed open for so long to be honest.
