that is why the trial and the real world are very different..

anyone have any opinions?

are we going to see 14mb/s or at least 1.8mb/s?

I thought the article mentioned Motorola is the company having the problems. Companies like Lucent and Ericsson are having no problems with HSDPA from the reports. Cingular tested well over the 1.8m speeds. We'll see what happens though when the entire network is up and running.
We'll see 14m in future updates.

Will that be the same time that we see pigs fly?

I'm skeptical of those speeds as well.

I don't see it would be any different from EV-DO...where Rev A is faster than the first release....

I don't expect the first release of HSDPA to be the "best" one.

Give it some time before you use words such as "alleged".

Believe what you like. The people who promised 2.4 mpbs for UMTS, 500+ kbps for EDGE, and 144 kbps for GPRS are the same folks who are promising 14 mbps for HSDPA. Their real world performance has considerably lagged their initial hype.

What is wrong with HSDPA delivering 2 mbps? This is much better than UMTS at 384 kbps. In other words, why tempt us with perfomance promises which will not be met in the real world?

I agree with you. I also think that we should give it some time for speeds to be proven. But I do not believe they'll reach 14mbps any time soon.
