I live in Ct.
And I have unlimited data, only way to keep it is to pay $620-$700+ for a new smartphone (S4) which of course I can't afford in one lump sum.
Soo, I am seriously considering a switch to T-Mobile, who STILL has unlimited data, and their value plan allows me to pay for the S4 over time.
And because Ct is essentially a suburb of NYC & Boston it will get Tmo's LTE somewhat soon.
They just have to send a software update to the Note 2.
At least Las Vegas & Kansas City are ready.
I worked at VZW during the analog to digital conversion. Digital-only handsets (the good ol' LG VX6000) didn't get launched until Verizon's native network was well over 99% digital coverage. There were still significant off-network analog areas in the wilderness that were covered by way of roaming agreements, but pretty much all the core coverage was 1xRTT.
We'll see the same thing happen here, I'm sure. Once the 700 MHz spectrum is built out to cover the existing 3G footprint, then you can most likely expect to start seeing devices that are 1xRTT + LTE only, cutting out the EVDO radios.
