And here go more customers to postpaid

Sure, thats probably what Verizon wants. However prepaid should be for those people who don't want large monthly bills (which this in effect is). I for one will NOT be changing my moms current prepaid over to the new system. I'd be out 30 bux a month, and shed never use it, whereas now i put 15 in each month, and she now has over 20 hours of talktime accrued.

Their positioning seems to be towards the younger generation - ie., kids who can't sign contract, parents give them too much money to spend, and they have a bunch of friends with verizon phones. For kids who are going to call either VZW people or on nights, this is very cool.

For the people who use 20 minutes every three decades, this plan sucks.

Why not offer both?

I see this changing back to the old way once they see that all the other pre paid services out perform them. When you can get like a tmobile pre for 1 third the cost for the phone and the 25 dollar card will last 3 months if you only use it for a few mintues like a pre paid would be used for...They will wise up..or miss out. Not very many people will want to spend 32.00 amonth on 20 daytime minutes.

Verizon has high credit standards, this is a plan for people who cant get a plan. At Radio Shack we offer Sprint, Verizon, Virgin, tracphone, and now this inpulse will fill a good role, for people who have money and want to use a phone but dont want to sign or 2 year agreement or put down 125 with sprint.

Not really. If you need minutes...pay the deposit. 1 you get the money back..and 2 even if you dont..its cheaper in the long run to get regular service and pay deposit.

Verizon Prepaid. $30.00 0/unlimited .10 day minutes

Verizon local plan. $29.99 (300/1000)
SprintPCS $35.00 (300/unlimitied)
Tmobile $19.99 (60/500)

Tmobile pre-paid. 25.00 (60/0 or 3 months of time).

I see nothing but a rip off. people have so many other ways to go. I dont see this doin well at all.

What is the coverage for tmobile prepay? Verizon and tracfone work in alot more places. That's very important for some prepay customers. 😁

Just like all post paid customers are not alike all prepaid customers are not alike.
I can see the youth crowd choosing this program. Unlimited In-Network on a prepaid is a great way to crack into Virgin Mobile's market. I would agree with whoever said for the occasional user this is not a good program. Tracfone is much better. Most dealers offer multiple carriers and options so it is not a problem for us.

the irony is* that the machines in their store say "credit card required to REUP a prepaid account" where they have cash acceptors and you can use it to pay other bills?!!

this is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. if youre on a REUP plan then maybe you dont HAVE a credit card.

this blew my mind and the girl in the store didnt know the answer

*(at least for the ReUp plan)

we take cash for ReUp cards at my radio shack. And to the guy who said why not just pay the deposit? cause in my area verizon deposits can be up to 1k? most people dont got an extra grand to let verizon borrow while they use the service. Plus this prepaid gets the reliability of the verizon network, without the 2 year agreement, very sweet deal.

I worked at a Radio Shack until a couple months ago and I don't see your point. When you can offer Tracfone or Virgin for less per month why go with the Verizon InPulse. It was my understanding that the whole reason Radio Shack brought back TracFone was because the were part of Verizon now. This may be incorrect but that is what I was told.

It appears to me that the strategy is to offer more choices for the customer. For some people Tracfone is best but for others InPulse will be a better choice. It is a matter of determining the customers calling pattern and then recommending a program based on customer needs.
Keep in mind that RS sells Cingular, ALLtel and USCC in various markets. So Tracfone and Virgin Mobile are great for those markets which because of geographical footprints a nationwide prepaid was needed.

Maybe the strategy is to offer more choices... but not for VzW. After Monday, all VzW prepaid customers will have INpulse as their only choice. It will be the only plan actively offered for now.

Maybe. I have to wonder though about the $0.99/day fee that they charge. Had it been even $0.50, I might see it as a decent deal for the youth market, but $0.99 is a bit much for kids, who will very often been talking to friends on other networks. The unlimited in-network will take away a lot of that, but not all of it.

It is very common for kids to "gang up" on the same network. T-Mobile at one time was the network of choice but it has shifted towards Verizon and Cingular because mom and dad are paying for their own phone on the carrier.
