The whold merger of Verizon/Sprint is just talk. Sprint/Nextel would be lame too. VZW is one of the best wireless companies in the world financially and cust satisfaction wise. Sprint should sell Sprint PCS to Nextel if they do decide to merge. I can see Verizon buying out Alltel before they buy out Sprint PCS. 1. Verizon roams off Alltel in the midwest, so buying Alltel will lower cost by having less roaming charges. 2. Alltel picked up OK lic/spectrum from Cingular as part of the ATTWS merger and Verizon needs that market. 3. it's more realistic that buying Sprint. VZW should start a IPO before any larger merger anyways. its nice having deep pockets with Ma (Vodafone) and Pa (Verizon Communication) backing, but VZW will be better of...

Verizon actually makes more money off of alltel than it would be worth to purchase them. All the rest of Alltel's "Nationwide" network is mostly Verizon wireless. That is why Alltel's roaming charges are so high. The only reason Verizon would purchase Alltel is for the Customer numbers and the spectrum.
