Samsung Is

Too cheap of a company to want to pay this prce. I understand to bring down the price and save money. Microsoft should know that Samsung will not opt to pay what they are asking for. The only quality I can say Samsung has good goign for them is the Screens they make as for phone's and TV's. As for the phone industry, they make cheap disposable products.

ANDROID IS DOING GREAT!! SO.....

😲 Does this mean everyone using Android will be paying extra like before on BlackBerry?!!! Everyone wants a piece of the ANDROID pie. It's no wonder, it's the biggest OS among st smartphone users today, leading even over iPhone by a hefty percentage. 😲
Well, think about it... you can get iOS on a whole FOUR phones, two of which aren't made anymore, and one of which is now a mid-range smartphone.

You can get Android on seemingly HUNDREDS of phones. Of course Android is more widespread than iOS.
Not EVERYBODY wants an Android Device. Did we all really think this was going to last forever? Obviously somebody is responsible for the technology in android besides google, and everybody knew that, so it was only a matter of time before the lawsuit...

Funny, Xerox Hasn't Asked Microsoft or Apple ...

...for a piece of every copy of Windows and MacOS for stealing Xerox's invention of using a mouse to control a computer. It was known as the Xerox Star system.

If I was Xerox, I'd go after BOTH Gates and Jobs for every last penny.

What happens to Android when it gets too expensive?

Google doesn't have to pay royalties because they hand the OS over for free. They make nothing hence they pay nothing.

Manufacturers on the other hand, they make a decent amount of money on the phones they sell. Money earned = money paid in royalties.

It's almost like a bait and switch;

"hey guys, wanna use this free OS? it's awesome!"
"sure! we'll take ten million copies!"
"oh yeah, now you have to pay other companies for their IP we used in creating this OS!"
"wait... what???"

I wonder if windows phone 7 is cheaper to liscense than Android by now?
Oracle is still suing Google for Java tech purchased from Sun used in Android VM...

Patents and such

Can't Google just stop using MS patented technologies in Android and substitute them with something made from scratch? Then MS wouldn't be able to charge them royalties anymore.

What about Oracle Patent Claims?

Manufacturers are finding that Android is not free.

Meh, Microsoft has a good list of patents

One of the biggest is VFAT (allows filenames to exceed 8.3 spec from years ago) which all digital devices use (think SD cards) from BlackBerrys to Kodak digital cameras, etc... Linux kernel has a work-a-round but that's all it is... I can think of other patents...
...ask TomTom about the above patent...
