Be Careful with the "Simultaneous Voice/Data Claims

I've seen a lot of misinformation on this floating around. The Thunderbolt (and all 4G LTE phones for years to come) have multiple radios, one for LTE-4G and one for CDMA. Where LTE is available, you will be able to talk and surf just fine. While 4G is an all-ip technology, Verizon will continue to use the CDMA network for voice at least initially.

For those who don't live in areas covered by LTE, or when you can't pick up LTE signal for any reason, you will be on 3G/CDMA and it will then work like any other Verizon smartphone! And who knows how well the Thunderbolt will be implemented with 3G fallback. For example, if you are on the internet and move out of range on LTE, will the connection stay open? What if you are on the phone when y...

Accually I work for verizon and the thunderbolt will be able to talk and do data on 3g and 4g because of the dual processing intena and im 5000000% sure of it
...
I have the thunderbolt in a 3g only area (though our airport has 4g coverage, but I'm not near it) and I can talk and surf at the same time without a problem...it's actually the reason I won't be returning the phone (I like my droix x widgets better, ...

I believe this is how it's meant to be interpreted...Perhaps it means this. You can talk and surf at the same time in 4G. If you drop to 3g there is no way to reclaim your current connection back to 4G. However you can talk 3G and surf with WiFi. S...

Troll much? I have the TB and i can confirm that you are able to use voice/data at the same time on 3G. End of story, go troll somewhere else.
🙄
Talk about misinformation....simultaneous voice/data works without a 4G connection. I have to travel over 20 miles from my home to reach any type of 4G reception. Simultaneous voice/data works flawlessly from my home....3G only.....no 4G.
My Thunderbolt and I live in an area only covered by 3G. I can talk and surf the web at the same time. I use it as a hotspot here at home and I can talk while doing so. Facebook, Twitter, you name it.

Get the Thunderbolt or wait?

Ok guys I'm up next week for a new phone should I get the Thunderbolt or wait for the Vigor to come out in October?
I've had the thunderbolt for about 4 months now. My biggest "complaint" has always been the battery. So the extended life battery is a must purchase along with an otterbox case. It is not that bad of a phone if you like large screen devices and androi...

Bluetooth issue?

My brother who had been with AT&T from 2001-2011 got his T-Bolt this March 2011. It took me 10 yrs to convince him to come over to Verizon.

I have been with Verizon since 2001. My original Moto Droid phone is acting up more in the last week or so.

A few days ago I texted him if there were any issues with his T-Bolt. He replied that his phone has difficulty keeping a Bluetooth connection so he is able to drive his car and talk hands free with his phone.

This is first thing I have heard of the Bluetooth issue and the T-bolt. Has anyone else had any similar issue?

Is Verizon planning on an update to fix this issue??

thanks ahead of time for your help.

I forgot to mention that I am thinking of getting a 4G phone to replace my dying Moto Droid, but I really like the bluetooth feature that my 2004 Acura TL has. In fact I got this car 1 yr before I got a phone with BT and used the BT feature every day...

Latest NOT GINGERBREAD update

Has anyone installed it and noticed anything get better?

I am holding out as I know it locks down my ability to use the mobile hotspot without a fee.
I have not gotten the update yet. So yea, enjoying free hot spot. But hate my phone rebooting, looking connections, bad gps.. Ect so when i get the update I'm downloading it.
...
I did a software upgrade today. I noticed they added My Verizon to my phone. So far, it's not rebooting like it did before. So this new software is suppose to be Gingerbread. Talked to customer service about the rebooting issue. He told me it was Ging...

Developers not focus on Thunderbolt

Ever since the TB was release there has yet to be an app that can be compatible with the TB. First of all the My Verizon. why havent they released a fix for this. This should be the main app that all Verizon phones should be able to use. Next is other apps being release that only are made for certain phones at start. The TB has never been on the list at first. Just other phones. I believe they failed on this phone at launch which is one reason Verizon is now saying the Samsung is the first Droid phone to take on the 4G LTE. the TB is a droid phone too. Its a great phone, phone they just need to push out these updates and get the ball rolling.

thunderbolt getting worse

My thunderbolt reboots itself more and more. I'm getting more error messages to. Anyone else's showing signs of getting progressively worse?
No I haven't seen that on my phone.
Yes. My phone now goes through more than one battery every day (close to 2) with little to no use (but the internet stays on). Phone reboots on its own. The contacts have "linked" and dial with a + which I always get a network busy signal,

The wor...

Still waiting

Has everyone gotten the last update? Im still waiting for it. I want to root but I want to wait for the update and it's taking forever.
The update been came and is gone now. They stop the update because it's causing problems. Phones are constantly rebooting on it's own. They are trying to fix this problem with another update.

Does anyone else have problems with TB Rebooting on its own?

Just wanted to know if I'm the only one. Does your phone reboots out of nowhere no mater what you are doing?(on call, playing games, on internet...etc)
Mine does 4-5 xs a day. I think all of them do to a degree. I've read hundreds of posts, tweets and comments about TB rebooting itself. Verizon and HTC are working together to fix it. But I have no idea when it will be fixed.

Yes before and after the update. Mine quite rebooting for a day and a half. But immediately after the update I got kicked over to 1x . Then a day and half later mine started rebooting itself again.

rooting & data question

I remember a while back Verizon was talking about slowing down heavy users of data. Since then at&t were caught doing it to 4g users. If you root your phone can you prevent this?
You cannot prevent what the carriers see on their side. If they see you use a lot of data, they may assume you are tethering.

Operating questions

I just got the thunderbolt and I am unable to find the answer to two questions for now. #1 when I turn the phone on you get the thunderbolt sound which wakes others. Can that be changed. # 2. With the iPhone or I touch u could take a picture of the screen. Can u do that with this phone? Any help would be appreciated.
If im not mistaken you have to be rooted to be able to do those things. When I had my X i was rooted and i used an app called Shoot Me to take screen shots. Check youtube to see how to change the start up
yeah unfortunately Root is required to make any system change like the boot animation sound. As far as taking screen shots, you can do this without rooting your phone. But its done on the PC

???AFTER S/W UPDATE????

After the S/W update was release my phone just constantly powers off and on. It happens thru-out the day. even when I'm on calls. I notice that my battery does not stay firmly fit in the battery slot, but I'm not sure if its that or just the S/W because my phone be just sitting still and it happens. Is anyone else having this same problem?
Try a factory reset. Some folks over at AndroidForums have had success. FYI I would always recommend a full wipe after any software update. Just seems to cut down on a lot of headaches later.

anyone having problems with *228 on the thunderbolt ?
Since the thunderbolt uses a SIM card, it doesn't have the *228 functionality. When the phone restarts, it automatically updates the PRL, if thats what you want.

wheres the upgrade?

I read on a different forum that Verizon's sending out an upgrade for TB. Helping with connection issues, sms... Ect. But I haven't gotten one. Has any one? I read a post, again on a different forum, that some people have gone to Verizon stores to get this upgrade. I have no stores in my area. And am not looking to spend 4.20$ a gal of gas to go on a hour drive one way to get this upgrade.

Surely they'll send this upgrade over the air?
